There have been similar cases where the body of the pot was moving, that is why I have mentioned it. It happened to a few radios..

Hi Bob,

I didnt install any gimbal yet.
I'm just considering to install Taranis Gimbals in my radio. I think its too much job to install M9 Gimbals.
I would like to know if Taranis Gimbals Works well in 9XR Pro.
Is it really better?
I'm even considering to by a Taranis radio instead.
What is your opinion about?

I think buying a Taranis Radio is good, I like mine a lot and if you were to purchase the Taranis Plus Special Edition
which comes with the M9 Gimbals.
(https://alofthobbies.com/taranis-plus-s ... ion-1.html)
You can flash it with erSky9x firmware, which is what you are using on your 9XR-pro.

The Gimbals that come in the 9XR-pro are not very good (can be unreliable) and that's why we want to replace them.
Yes, the Taranis Gimbals work in the 9XR-Pro, but do not fit fix properly and so need a lot of custom fitting to install them.

Sorry, just now I got it. Taranis gimbals works good in 9XR Pro. But let me know, considering 9XR Pro as a whole, does it compensate pay around U$30,00 to install Taranis gimbals in it?

You may have a bad Elevator pot, and if you use Mod 2 for your sticks,
I do have some new centering 9XR-pro Gimbals (Ailerons & Elevators).
If bad pot see here also for more info about (maybe) fixing a bad pot: (viewtopic.php?f=95&t=2974&hilit=replace ... 9x+Gimbals).

For which firmware (erSky9x or opentx) to use has more to do with what you personally want to use.
They are both very good, though I have had more trouble using opentx.
I started with er9x and now I use erSky9x most, which for me dose some things that opentx does not do.
Was just thinking, you are using erSky9x on your 9XR-pro and so you may want to stay with using erSky9x
with the Taranis Plus Special Edition, if you were to purchase one.

I hope this helps, Blessings,

Bob,
Basically I use telemetry to monitor lipo battery voltage with voice alert. Does the Opentx works good in this case? Is it more difficult to be configurated?

Yes, you would use the same erSky9x (plus) firmware for all versions of Taranis-plus radios.
The Taranis Plus especial edition radios has better hardware in them and is the best deal for what you get in my opinion.

Opentx I have not used for some time now, but if using erSky9x you can configuring your telemetry setting the same way
as you have been with your 9XR-pro radio.

Where do I find the erSky9x firmware to update Taranis?
Another question. To move my planes from 9XR Pro to Taranis with erSky9x is just to insert the Sd card from 9XR inTaranis and copy them?

bivo wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2017 9:07 am I get a little bit afraid of updating firmware.
You should do this first.
If you have not used eePSkye (eeprom editor) on your PC yet, you should use "eePSkye Eeprom Editor" to backup (Save)
your list of planes (model programs) also known as eeprom.
You will need to make the proper setting for your 9XR-Pro radio in "Preferences" .
USB connection between 9XR-Pro radio and your PC / eePSkye Eeprom Editor.
Select "Read Memory From Tx" and then "save as" giving it a name, suggest something like this "11172017 9XRpro_a".
Its always good to save all of your old eeprom model list as you will be able to restore them to your radio if lost.

Second you can save your present 9XR-pro radio firmware to your PC using eePSkye.
Click on "Read Firmware From Tx", save and name this file too.
bivo wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2017 9:07 am Where do I find the erSky9x firmware to update Taranis?
Find the newest ersky9x firmware and the newest eePSkye eeprom editor here: (http://www.er9x.com/).
Also if needed erSky9x directory layout for your SD card: (viewtopic.php?f=35&t=9034&p=116984#p116984).
bivo wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2017 9:07 am Another question. To move my planes from 9XR Pro to Taranis with erSky9x is just to insert the SD card from 9XR in Taranis and copy them ?
No, because the 9XR-Pro and the Taranis-Plus use different hardware, the Radio setup is different between them.
Like, for one thing, the Taranis-Plus has more switches and in the program (firmware) they are also labeled differently.
So you will need to create a new eeprom model program for each model for the Taranis radio.
I think the best way is to update each of the eeprom model programs, by using eePSkye.
You can copy and paste most of the info and then make the correct setting changes for each eeprom model program.

I hope this helps,
Bob B.

Bob, I do believe models between all Ersky9x radios are compatible. Of course you will have to check the switches and that all the models is working well before you fly it.
I remember Mike saying that he mapped all the switches on all radios so they more or less match each other.
I do not have a taranis radio so I cannot try this myself. But they should be compatible, yes.

Hi João,
It has been some time since I moved eeprom model files from 9Xtreme and Sky9x radios to Taranis.
And have not tried it since Mike has updated eePSkye too.
So it may work better now then I can recall, if I find time, I will try it.
I also, could have be thinking of when I had moved (changed) er9x eeprom model files to erSky9x eeprom model file.
Thank you for your very good info ! :) 8-)

It wasn't possible, due to the different number of 2-pos and 3-pos switches to do a full switch translation, but this is the mapping I do:

Code: Select all

PRO TARANIS
THR SF
RUD ---
ELE ---
IDx SC
AIL ---
GEA ---
TRN SH
If any 'Pro 2-pos switches have been changes to 3-pos:
THR SB
RUD SE
ELE SA
AIL SD
GEA SG

Well, maybe not completely different.
In eePSkye / erSky9x (use "BIN File" type) I can open (import) a saved eeprom er9x file (use "EEPE_File" type).
The er9x eeprom file is missing some (a lot) of the data, but with the data that is there,
I can copy and paste data back and forth.
But seem, I am not able to save to the proper er9x file type (did not try them all though). :) ;)

Yes, you should be able to.. Just check the models are working as they should. Check also the switches, you might have to re-program some of them.

Anyway, to know for sure, just try it. :)

Yes you can, but look closely :)

I have just tried, the only data that seems to be there is the model name. Good luck copying and pasting empty mixes

You are mixing copying files between ersky9x radios and importing files from er9x radios. And this is different.
You should be able to directly copy a model from an ersky9x radio to another, even if it has different hardware.

But I don't think you could directly do the same with an er9x model.

What i just tried was to create a ersky9x eeprom with eepskye, right click on one of the model slots, and IMPORT a model created with er9x. This will give an error, but most of the information should be converted. You will still need to check the model as ersky9x has more options and features than er9x.

You can do this with eepskye, but not with the radio I believe.

Mike, what do you think about implementing different file extensions for er9x and ersky9x (eeprom and models) so we wouldn't try to open wrong files with the radio? I don't know what the consequences would be as I didn't try it... yet :)

Thanks

.bin = ersky9x firmware or EEPROM.
.hex = er9x firmware or EEPROM, the file size wil indicate which it is, 5K or 10K is EEPROM.
.eepe = er9x EEPROM coded in XMLwith headers to indicate it is from er9x.
.eepm = model coded in XML with a header to indicate it whether it is from er9x or ersky9x.

These two, by looking at the file we can't know if it is for ersky9x or er9x.. Yhis is what I mean.. There is nothing on the file extension to differentiate them. And eepm files can be loaded directly on the radio, that means we could perhaps restore a er9x model to an ersky9x radio? and vice-versa too? What would the consequences be? :)

The Megasound checks the XML file (.eepm) to make sure it is from er9x, ersky9x also checks to make sure the XML file is from ersky9x, so trying to load a file for the "other" firmware should result in an error and not restore.

Hello,

I fitted the M9 gimbals into 9xr with very little cutting, removed the trim pcbs and used a 3d printed adapter.
Adapter: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2693386

Then just drill the outer holes through M9 gimbal plastic .. and use longer screws.

If anybody is interested I can make some photos.
