Flashing Frsky receiver firmware via 9XR Pro

Post by rsilk49 »

I want to flash the International firmware on to a new R-XSR receiver since it looks like my XJT module may be loaded with the FCC firmware and I cannot bind.
The XJT module has a standard 3 pin Smartport connection on the case (smartport, +5v, ground). This is a simple connection which would avoid the known potential problem of overpowering the receiver with more than 10v when connectiing to the exposed pins on the radio back.

1 Can I connect the XJT Smartport to the receiver Smartport and flash the frk file?
2 where is the menu option to do this via ersky9xr?

1. NO! You would end up flashing the XJT module!
2. Power on in "maintenance mode" (hold the two horizontal trims APART, then power on.

To flash a receiver, I would suggest connecting ground and the SPort signal (bottom pin) to the Rx, and powering the Rx from a battery. THis actually works best as the Rx should only be powered when the flashing operation reaches the "Finding Device" stage, as the 'PRO doesn't have a switch power output.

Followed your instructions and selected Update SPort then applied 5v power to receiver when Finding device msg appears, but I also get
0087 4900 and stops. Green led is solid on receiver, no blue or red showing.
Radio firmware : ersky9x-r222, 06.07.2019
Rx firmware : r-xsr_fcc_190311.frk

After you power the Rx on, do you then get the 0087 4900 appear, with the display showing "Flashing" with a progress bar and then nothing else happens?
Or does the display show "FAILED"?

After powering the RX, 0087 4900 displays immediately (no progress bar) and remains with no movement until I cancel via exit button.
Rx is powered from 5v servo rail. Common ground from servo rail to ground pin on radio (grey wire).

OK, I'll try to build you a special test version with some debug to try to locate the problem.

Should work. Follow the instructions from the post above (Fri Nov 22, 2019 12:40 am ). The bottom pin of the module connector is SPort, the one above that is GND. Power the Rx from a separate supply. Get the update to the "Finding Device" point, then power the Rx on.

Thnks Mike, in order to avoid a mistake: you tell I use the lower of the five pin connector of the JR box is linked to the SPort pin and I power the Rx with my own 5 volts pack ?

Yes, the lower (bottom) pin is SPort, the one above (4th from top) is Ground (0V). Power the Rx from your own, 5V pack.
