Arduino and a litany of errors

Post by GlidingFool »

Hi all

As the proud owner of an Eurgle and an Arduino Duemilonova (what a mouthful!), I am having some fun!

I have built a shield for the arduino that:
disables the arduino reset
provides heartbeat, error and program LEDs
exposes the six pins for the cable to the radio via header pins

I have installed the ISP sketch on the arduino.

I have downloaded eePe and er9x.

Now I think I have had every error in the book - often caused by my poor wiring - and I have worked through most of them, but now I am stuck . . .

Please let me know what I am doing wrong (asides from not using S_mack's board  )

1. Plug Arduino into USB cable
2. Heartbeat LED starts pulsing
3. Plug cable into radio
4. Radio is not receiving enough power from the programmer to run so I have it's battery plugged in and turned on.
5. Radio starts normally and then switches to the function menu screen and starts beeping at approximately one second intervals
6. When I run eePe and try to read the radio's memory, I get:
avrdude: stk500_2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout

Now this says to me that I have partial communication with the radio and I have checked continuity via the cable several times.

Most of this has happened on my mac, but I can now replicate the error on my windows 7 pc.

No suggestion is too stupid. Any ideas welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Can you post the full output from avrdude? There may be more clues in there.

The latest Arduino ISP had some issues...
try an older release..

Well bugger me!(Metaphorically only)

I tried Arduino 0022 and everything works like a charm!

Many thanks Romolo.

Also thanks of course to gohstb and others who read my query.

Cheers from Oz.
