converting models from OpenTX to er9x

Post by citfta »

I have decided to build the ArduVoice project that jhsa and MikeB designed a few years back. To use the voice board they designed I will have to change my firmware to er9x. I have been using OpenTX for several years now and have several models set up on my OpenTX transmitter. If I backup my models using eepe before replacing my firmware with er9x and then reload them after the conversion will I lose all my model settings such as mix, delta configurations etc?

Thanks,
Carroll

Most likely.. You will probably have to reprogram them manually.. Save them to your computer using companion first so you can open them later, and manually program them in eepe, or radio.

Thanks. I was planning to save them first in companion. But after a lot of reading I understand I need to use eepe to reprogram my radio with er9x. Being able to open them later in companion to see how each one was set up is a good idea. I was only thinking about using companion if I had to go back to OpenTX for some reason.

Hi Joao,

I successfully changed my 9x OpenTx radio to er9x. I have found some things I really like about the er9x firmware. The first thing I noticed was that when setting up my models once I go to the model setup page I can then jump directly to the page I want to work on instead of having to scroll through several other pages first. This makes it much easier and quicker to set up a model.

The other thing I really like is being able to set a switch to automatically set the offsets to center the servos. I used the trainer switch. I just use my trims to center the servos and then hit the trainer switch and the offsets are automatically saved and my trim tabs return to center. A very nice and useful feature. Thanks to MikeB for that!

Thanks for all your help,
Carroll

Good that you like it.
Both opentx and Er9x have their pros and cons :) But I do prefer Er9x (or ErskyTx on more powerful radios). As you found out navigating the menus is way easier in Er9x
Also, I do believe the OpenTX team do not develop for this radio anymore. Mike still adds new features to Er9x, as long as they fit in the available flash memory, which is quite full on the original m64 processor.
Many of us, replaced it with a much better Atmega2561, which is pin compatible, but has the double of the flash memory and also the double of the eeprom capacity.
