F3F glider setup

Post by rcsoar »

6-servo F3F glider setup, with documentation. This is a fairly straight port of a competition setup developed originally on a Multiplex 4000.

Enjoy

Mike,
thanks for sharing this setup.
It is quite complex and, to say the truth, I don't yet fully understand the logic, just studying on it.
I started from the bottom, where I found the nice trick that gets the aileron trim out (CH21).

Thanks for feedback! I guess you've already found that trying to understand the .EEPE file directly is not much use - it's much better to study the Excel file as it contains supporting documentation. If you want to just get going, then the instructions in the PDF file should be all you need and you'll get some idea of what's going on as you set up the model.

A key feature of the setup is 'Calibration mode', more here:

I will write some more short tips on the web site when i get some time.

Looking to the config, first I catched the clever trick for isolate the aileron trim , but, till I read your web site, didn't understand why the trick is really necessary. Now, I know !

The calibration mode is the second trick I understood, brilliant !
Btw, I just implemented the virtual latch in order to safe my throttle command, very useful (I dont use the throttle stick but a switch).

Still studying the config....

I see you added another article, about in flight adjusters.
Now, that was the missing piece, at least to me, for fully understand your setup.
By the way, I now see all the errors I made in my previous setup !
Thanks again.

Thanks all for your feedback!

Version 3 of the F3F setup is now available. Enhancements include:

- Reverse Diff option for better roll response when braking, easy adjustment via a GVAR.
- Better snapflap expo adjustment
- Better documentation

NOTE: this version supports OpenTx 2 only (2.0.12 recommended)

Potential issue with F3F setup version 3.0.0

Post by rcsoar »

Gents, a potential issue has been spotted in 3.0.0 - the 'catchall' line for the aileron input has incorrect source. Please see blogpost for more details and simple fix.

Hello Mike
thanks for sharing your experience
I understood the differential bug in mixers and the trick you found out to work around this issue
Apparently there is no such bug in the input menu.
So, why don't you apply aileron differential within inputs, instead of mixers ?

Diff at the Input level is applied to the stick input, and will reduce the aileron response on one side, which is not what we want.

To implement aileron diff, you must apply the diff at the mixer level, individually for each aileron and flap servo.
