"What he said" ... and it's recommended to run the later versions, from there -- although the old adage, "If it aint broke, don't fix it" applies just as well, I suppose.
Glad you got it going!

Re: r2129 and possible crash/lockup bug
Fair enough.
Well then, we are all still at a loss to understand what the cause of the problem was. Frustrating.
That LiFePO4 pack looks OK to me, though I have no personal experience with them.

Re: r2129 and possible crash/lockup bug
Different models between the sim and my quad, so not a model specific setting alas. I do still have the standard battery connection running 8 x 2200mAh NiMh batteries. Whilst that connector has never been great, if it was that the whole raio would be dying and the TX module wouldn't still be output...

... that particular connection appears to have a plug on the wires but that plug then appears to be actually soldered to the PCB with the main switch (why bother with the plug *shrug*). It's actually not a "plug". It's a wire-crimp to solder-tab terminal block, for want of its normal indu...

Re: r2129 and possible crash/lockup bug
Hi. Bertrand asked me to come take a look here. (Thanks) It is true that the transmitter cannot physically power off, if the power switch is in the ON position -- assuming said switch and its wiring are physically intact. In fact, the circuitry regarding soft-power-off can only hold the power on, af...

Just to be clear, seems you didn't notice you're talking to 2 people here - samoraj who you've been apparently troubleshooting for ages, and myself who just chimed in yesterday without prior mail exchanges. Oh. Oops. I don't do well with forums. They drive me up the wall, when this sort of thing ha...

Re: LCD monitor no working
Ok...let' go step by step 1. I flashed with EN open9x-frsky on OPEN9X wiki binaries. I've tried with open9x as was attached above. Still blank screen OK. Well that should work, once you fix the firmware in your programmer -- assuming the one you have is hardware compatible with the firmware you fou...

OK. My gprog being apparently defective I used an HK usbasp, which would explain it. So what usbasp firmware should we use? You have a defective gProg? Then I will send you another! You should have said. (Or did you?) EDIT: Found this: http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1363#p29...

Re: LCD monitor no working
You need to have the USBasp libusb Windows drivers installed to use the bootloader on the G9X board, just as you would if you were using an external (separate) USBasp programmer on the 6-pin ISR port. Which is to say, I'm confused by what you mean above, since you have already done something to flas...

Re: LCD monitor no working
Glad the board arrived safely. Under no circumstances should you see a blank screen, if correct firmware is loaded. It's NOT a settings issue. The only logical conclusion I can make is that the firmware is errant. Either the on-demand compiler on the server that companion9x uses is broken (very unli...

Could be another week or so, yet. Not sure why, but parcels from the USA (yes, I know you're nowhere near there ) seem to be taking longer than usual to arrive. Maybe February is a busy time of the year. *shrug* Wouldn't have thought so.

Re: LCD monitor no working
Happy to report that was able to fix Samo's board by finding and remedying some dry solder joints. I've given the entire board a good going over and am sending it back, all tested and working fine. Yay
Thanks for your perseverance and patience Samo. Top stuff!

Re: Turnigy 9XR General
My 9XR arrived today. Opened her up, had a look and then logged on here to find images from others, already done so. Suffice to say, the G9X boards will not fit this radio. First impressions of the radio were, "Nice." The LCD seems good. More clear than the previous models in artificial li...

Re: LCD monitor no working
Well, yes. You could do that, though I never have. I was meaning one probe on the LCD connector pad and one at the far end of the track, where the resistors are. But listen ... I think this has gone far enough (thanks for the voltage tests). Why don't you just send your board to me and I'll send you...

Gosh .. there's a myriad of other possibilities and we're really just making stabs in the dark. POWER TESTS FIRST. Then we see where we go from there.

This is likely going way to far for the moment ... but a little more info never hurts, right? :-P Gel flux and another run of the soldering iron over all the MCU pins doesn't hurt either. NOTE: "GEL FLUX" (Also called "re-work flux"). The clear liquid stuff can work OK for this j...

Re: LCD monitor no working
Also, if certain LCD connections are missing, the entire firmware can lock up (waiting for LCD confirmation responses) and fail to boot up at all, causing more problems than just a dead screen. For example, the code to turn the back-light on might never get called. Again ... the LCD socket and relat...

[Thanks Bertrand for pointing me here.] OK. We need to take this one step at a time. Hand-built (black) gr...

Didn't think of that. OK, here (attached) is a zipped PNG screen shot from KiCAD's schematic editor, showing G9X DSM2/X Tx Caddy Rev 2.0.
EDIT: Added 2nd attachment, being the current PCB layout.
EDIT: Added 3rd image, showing KiCAD's basic 3D display.

Re: Open9x - TX CADDY
Thanks for the suggestion. FWIW, the software is freely available and is named KiCAD. There are Linux and Windows versions. It's a fairly large download though, so I'd suggest only, "going there" if you're really interested. I can add PDF versions to the project files tree. But then I have...

Re: Open9x - TX CADDY
(See edits above) ...
I probably change the name of the design files to just, "dsm_tx_caddy.*", eventually, since the board will work with a DSM2/X module and any other PPM module -- not just Fr-Sky.

Re: Proposed changes to protocol labels
Very helpful. I had confirmed that 11ms framing seemed to work here, on the bench, using both an older DSM2 and DX4e modules -- and also translated to faster updates at the receiver end. But I never got around to running lengthy reliability tests and thus didn't post anything about it yet. So that i...

Re: Proposed changes to protocol labels
@Kilrah -- Great reply. Thanks! I also noticed the voltage spikes you mentioned. Good idea! Right now, I don't even know if the transmitter mirrors the input data frame timing at the RF stage or not. That could well be entirely asynchronous. But monitoring the power draw on the scope will indeed ans...

Re: Proposed changes to protocol labels
Sorry about the added confusion from my previous long post. Here, I just want to list what I know for sure and what I'm now not sure of. It will be just that, a list. My AR-6000 DSM (park-flier) receiver binds with a DX6i TX module in either (open9x) LP4/LP or DSMonl modes -- the latter taking a lit...

Re: Real-Time DSM Timing Data
I just tried 11ms frame rates for DSM2 mode, using the worst-case DSM2=PPM mode for data transfer. IT WORKS. I'm using an older, non-DSMX TX module. I didn't even have to re-bind. I'm also amazed how much more responsive the servo movements are! I really didn't expect to notice a difference. FAST. H...

Re: Proposed changes to protocol labels
I couldn't resist. I put of the work I'm supposed to be doing to test 11ms frame rate. It works. DSM2/DSMonl mode at 11ms frame rate works perfectly -- and on an older, non-DSMX module, in fact. I didn't even have to rebind. As expected, it just works. Amazing how much more responsive the servos see...
