Re: Voltage Cutoff

Agreed Reinhard, if one wants to stick with AA cells, solder or otherwise fix a pack together. I would not use that plastic 8cell carrier that comes with the 9x - not worth the risk. Maybe you could find a different 8cell carrier that is more robust and mechanically sized correctly, but even that's ...

Re: Using er9x with simulator... what simulator?

I only have experience with RealFlight 6.0 and 6.5. For about $200 in the USA, you get the sim with a linked USB Futaba-style controller included. It is pretty realistic for both planes and helis. Sounds expensive, but as you said will save major cash in the long run. For helis only I've heard good ...

Re: Desoldering The Atmega Chip Using Chip Quik

Ozzy, FWIW I briefly explained how Chip Quick works in this post. You don't need a high power soldering iron, the Sn-Bi solder does retain heat long enough and has a very low solidus temp which gives the operator time to remove the chip.

that's for the project you're working on, right? Some of the resistor values seem to fit within their idea of tolerance, example R6=10k or 9.1k; within +/-10%. However R4, R5 and R8 (the important one) were off my a mere 100%! I wish you best of luck, frankly it seems a bit of a gamble. My boards al...

@bluesteel212, can you physically move the right stick up/down/left/right or is it stuck? I'm not sure you're saying the stick is physically stuck or if it does move but you don't see any response from the radio (changing values on the LCD screen). Please confirm.

betemcu.cn programmer schematic variations

Hi friends, I've really been struggling with these USBASP programmers. The beginning of the story is documented here . Now I've moved onto the betemcu.cn programmer. At first I ordered 2, 1 of the 2 worked and I attributed the non-working one to the modification I had made to remove USB type A and r...

Re: Desoldering The Atmega Chip Using Chip Quik

Well isn't that interesting. All the unused pins have a thru-hole to the backside of the board. I wonder are they plated thru-hole? If so, it's sure a lot easier to push a wire into the thru-hole and solder than trying to attach hair-thin wires to the micro legs. @jhsa, would you mind doing continui...

Cool, thanks for update. For IR module, if I understand correctly you plan to repurpose a USBASP programmer, reflash/change the firmware, add a transistor to drive the LED, connect transistor base to one of the ATmega8 outputs and connect a micro input to the PPM signal from the 9X or 9XR? Re: Desoldering The Atmega Chip Using Chip Quik

yes, increase the soldering iron temp a bit. Chip Quick is Tin-Bismuth solder with liquidus temp about 140degC. SAC Pb-free solder has liquidus temp ~270degC. You need the iron hot enough to melt the SAC, then the Sn-Bi solder will readily fuse with SAC and reduce the solidus temp to between 100degC...

Interesting, so you used a 3.3V buck converter from HK to power the RF module? I see you have a torodial inductor on the (battery?) +/- wires and added a capacitor (on the regulator output?). Were these your own additions or did the inductor and capacitor come from the HK regulator? I was always afe...

Re: Printed Circuit Board Soldering / Testing

FYI - Quick Chip is nothing more than Tin-Bismuth solder. This solder when has a very low melting point and a large heat capacity. It readily blends with commonly used SAC (Sn-Ag-Cu) and Pb-Sn solders for electronics. Bismuth based solder was popular in Japan at the beginning of the Pb-free evolutio...
