From your description, yes... from the photo, I wouldn't say it looks unusual. But if you have a soldering iron and are confident enough in your skills that you can remelt the solder on there and get a better connection, you can certainly see if that resolves it.

Yeah, I'm hoping Mike can tell if by "eeprom" we mean the 9X's eeprom or the 9Xtreme's flash memory. I'd assume the latter, but awaiting confirmation on when/why that error appears.

I would suggest the pre-crimped ones João linked to. Crimping your own can be an ordeal if you don't have the proper expensive tool to do the job. They are the correct JST PH series. Even the wire colours are the same! (That can't be a coincidence, can it?)

For that tiny chip I'd use hot air. Less cleanup. You should be able to heat up all pins simultaneously and just blow it right off. Just have to be careful with nearby components. Send me an email when you get a sec and confirm your address... I'll get you some practice boards
