Re: 9X Roadmap
Rather than upgrading the 9x in a big way, you might want to look at Taranis or the expected 9XR Pro. More capability for less money and effort. Of course, they eliminate the tinkering fun.

Taranis and DSM2 mods
So an orange dsmx module from hobbyking will work? The Orange DSM module works fine as a standard module using PPM input. But that's not what is being discussed here. This thread is about using a module from a Spektrum transmitter (DX4e typically) to function with the serial data stream just like i...

V8FRII Binding issues
Do you really mean "bind" or are you talking about just normal connection when you turn things on. The jumper is need for binding in the D-mode but you normally do that only once for a receiver with a specific module/Tx. Normal connection does not require a jumper.

Will FW update lose my model settings?
Well unfortunately I lost a bunch of models when upgrading my Turnigy 9XR from the stock (HobbyKing build of er9x?) to OpenTx a couple of days ago. While Companion9X may be great software, it's not ok to do an upgrade that destroys my data without making it very, very clear beforehand. I don't feel...

(can you put a DJT in 9XR?)
Yes, of course. It takes a standard JR-type module.

Re: Christmas is coming
That's great news. Key to its success will be a price that keeps the 9XR Pro well below Taranis. That should be possible with volume production.

A little strange to give the student control of the master. Usually they don't know they're in trouble and ride it into the ground. As a long time instructor, I'd put it more strongly than that! The instructor MUST have the master transmitter and MUST be able to take over by releasing a spring load...

taranis battery
A voltage of 9.3 is FAR too low for a 3s LiPo. That may pretty much destroy the battery. A resting voltage of 3.5 or 3.6 per cell is as low as it should go (10.5 or 10.8 for 3s). I would set it at 11.0, which corresponds to about 10% of capacity left. Don't confuse resting voltage (which is essentia...

Re: Trainer switch challenge
I do a lot of training in our club flight school. I wouldn't dream of having anything other than a spring loaded switch arrangement to regain control, as when you need to take over, there's no time to think about it. The thing to do is to make the trainer switch as comfortable as possible (e.g., use...

Re: full throttle on tx startup
I was under the impression that CH3 on FlySky receiver (that comes with 9x) would output no pulses if the receiver lost signal and that any decent ESC would as a result shut down. Of course this doesn't help if you are controlling a throttle servo for an IC engine.

Re: JR module slot pins too long
Its the 9x that is nonstandard. There have been various reports of the problem with the Turnigy/FlySky module in other transmitters. Unlike the other modules, in this one the pins can't slide through the sockets, so full length pins can be a problem. There was a post somewhere about how to fix the m...

Spektrum DM9 Module in Taranis
The Spektrum DSM2 module works fine in Taranis with the right settings under External RF Module in the Model Setup menu: PPM CH1-8 22.5ms 400u (not the default 300) + (not the default - polarity) It won't work at all with negative polarity, and if you leave the pulse width at 300us, the centering wi...

What is it you intend to control?
Do you intend to look a the screen during operation? That doesn't work if you are flying or driving something. You need voice feedback.
Or is the screen just for programming?

Re: Buddy box / trainer settings
Just to confirm: Any properly set up JR (or Spektrum) radio uses the TAER channel order, regardless of stick mode. One thing to watch out for is that 100% throw on JR/Spektrum corresponds to 80% throw on OpenTX. You may find that you need to increase throw on the slave transmitters to 125% to get si...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods
Has anyone actually used an orange module in the Taranis? I have seen dozens of comments stating it should work and believe myself that it should. I have an orange module here that does not work. I don't know if the module is any good as I have nothing else with a JR style socket. The module blinks...

Re: Orange RX meets Taranis
Attached is a photo of my modified Orange module in the Taranis. I used a defunct Fly Dream module as the source of a module cover with sensible design for antenna mounting. It just took a little "adjustment" to get the screws to line up. You could do something similar with a FlySky module...

Re: Throttle pulsing with Sticky T-Cut
I took a look at it in Companion and see that somewhere along the way it has acquired various mixes on CH 14, presumably because I deleted the Sticky T-Cut mix on CH1 and then reapplied the template. The mixes on CH14 refer to CSB. While messing around, I changed CSB to CSC and the rate of pulsing s...

Throttle pulsing with Sticky T-Cut
I'm using Opentx-r2413 in a 9XR. I set up a simple 4-channel model with triple rates and nothing else fancy. Everything worked fine. I added the Sticky T-Cut template and initially it seemed to be OK. But then I discovered (in the air!) that after a few seconds the throttle would start pulsing from ...

Re: Using DSM module from a recalled DX4e?
Thanks for that link. It confirms my conclusion that I should not use the module. Right now I have an HP6DSM from which I can steal the module, and DSM2 is really all that counts. I might also send in the DX4e for the fix. I used the HP6DSM module and antenna. Very easy to extract and use. See here...

Using DSM module from a recalled DX4e?
I have obtained a used DX4e with the intention of harvesting the module for use in a 9x. Unfortunately, I now discover that it is one of those early ones recalled by Spektrum as a result of problems when in DSM2 mode and that it was never sent in to Horizon Hobby for the fix. Should I assume that th...

Re: Mysterious throttle offset/limit
Got it. Thank you all. The throttle trim works differently than I expected. Perfectly logical but not at all like my JR transmitters. The difference between my model with offset and the one generated by the Simple 4-Channel template is that the latter has throttle trim turned off. As I predicted, em...

Re: Mysterious throttle offset/limit
Perhaps a Throttle Trim? If yes, you have to lower it to go down to -100.0! I can force the throttle to zero with trim or offset, but what I don't understand is why the offset is there. It's only on throttle and shifts the whole range up by about 20%. At full throttle, it's zero. I've posted the fi...
