Taranis DEAD !!!!!

You certainly can plug the balance lead of a 2s LiPo into the Taranis power socket. I use a 2s 1000 battery as my spare, though I normally run on NiMH. As for not being allowed to open the transmitter, that's just not so. The only way to adjust the throttle friction/ratchet and stick spring tension ...

I thought this was a very useful piece of work that deserved to be printable, so took the liberty of converting to Word, fixing the pagination and saving back to PDF. I fixed a few typos in the process but didn't change anything else.

Re: Auto Power Off??

Good advice. Especially about not using a two pin connector with a three pin socket. People think they won't make a mistake, but out of the four possible ways to plug in, two will fry the radio, and it's especially easy to displace the connector to the wrong pair of pins. The black connector does wo...

Taranis mode 1 back in stock @ HK

But you forget that there are lots of people with the fine motoric skills of a dead whale or are concerned with warranty issues. Fine with me, was able to buy one and enjoy fiddling around in it ;-) You argue persuasively. :D But where did this idea come from that opening a radio voids the warranty...

Re: Taranis mode 1 back in stock @ HK

I don't know why they even bother to sell the two modes when it's so easy to switch. Unlike some transmitters which require delicate work with narrow nose pliers to switch the centering mechanism, Taranis just needs a couple of screws tightened and a couple of other loosened.

Odd issue with Phoenix flight sim...

That works for me. Just finished setting mine up yesterday and it works as it should. But you do have to have the transmitter turned on (unlike Spektrum or JR). Plugging in the cable doesn't turn on the encoder. One thing that sometimes confuses people is that sim configuration is the same as slave ...

New Quick Start Guide for Taranis (DOWNLOAD)

This is a superb piece of work that should be the basic reference document for every Taranis owner. Not only is the Guide the best place to start for anyone getting a Taranis, but it will be invaluable as a permanent and evolving resource. Even though I've had my Taranis since July and used it exten...

I'm trying to find a dependable LSD brand of Nimh cells sold locally in the big box stores like Walmart or Fry's. So many brands and claims to try. So far the HK LSD have been ok in my Taranis so maybe I'll just absorb the shipping and order more. I've been using Rayovac from Walmart with good resu...

I agree with Ted. What matters is the physical travel measured at the control surface.

Generally speaking, a ratio of 100/75 for high and low rates is about right, with 100 corresponding to the maximum throws specified in the manual.

Re: Search for Replacement 9x Potentiometers!

Regarding sanding the pot element, note that in the video the abrasive used is 1500 grit wet or dry paper. This is ultra fine. By contrast, the grit on a nail sanding board is probably about 150 -- 10 times coarser! I'm leery about using ever the finest of abrasive on a carbon film pot, but might gi...

Adding slider switch possible?

It should be possible to replace one or two of the pots on a 9x with some type of slider or lever actuated pot. That should work with any of the firmware variants for the regular 9x. The main issue would be the mechanical arrangements for mounting the new pot. ERSky9x only works with a Sky9x board (...

Re: Hobbyzone Apprentice S 15e

To get the correct throws, it's very important to note that 100% on a Spektrum transmitter corresponds to about 80% on ER9X (or Open9x). If you set up with full throw on ER9X you will have far to much for normal flying in high rate. It's also important to make sure the mechanical adjustment of the s...

That's not something that should (or could) be incorporated into the firmware; rather, you get it through forums and ...

Re: Replacement Battery For FrSky Taranis

I think I will go for the 6 ni-mh solution, with the turnigy 2400mah. My taranis has not arrived yet from hobbyking, it should be a B version, will it contain the first 800mah battery or the new 2000mah, in which case no need for a replacement battery? In fact, the regular battery is ample for norm...

Replacement Battery For FrSky Taranis

When you take into account that Taranis has a switching regulator that makes efficient use of various battery voltages, in terms of duration, the 1500 3s LiFe battery is roughly equivalent to a 2250 2s LiPo. I consider it a good solution. I am currently using a DIY pack of 6 Eneloops. It's very conv...

Re: 9XR XJT module FAIL - Help!

I've had various problems with module contacts in different transmitters, including JR and with modules including the Spektrum DM9. In some cases, the answer was to put a balsa wedge into the space between the tab and the module. In another, it was to bend the pin into a very slight curve. One 9x wo...

I can envisage a system where you buy a Taranis, 9XR, 9XR Pro, etc. and it comes with full working firmware installed. The manufacturer would pay a fixed amount per transmitter and would provide maintenance updates on its website (no additional features). The cost would be passed on to the purchaser...

Wireless Trainer Connection on Taranis.

I believe the connector in the Module Bay include GND, +5V and/or VBat. So the D4R-II can use this power-connector easily and so only 1 wire is needed to the center - pin of the trainer-port. GND is so connected internally over the Module Bay. There is no 5v supply available. The relevant pins (cou...

So an orange dsmx module from hobbyking will work? The Orange DSM module works fine as a standard module using PPM input. But that's not what is being discussed here. Do you really mean "bind" or are you talking about just normal connection when you turn things on. The jumper is need for binding in the D-mode but you normally do that only once for a receiver with a specific module/Tx. Normal connection does not require a jumper.

Well unfortunately I lost a bunch of models when upgrading my Turnigy 9XR from the stock (HobbyKing build of er9x?) to OpenTx a couple of days ago.
