X10S display backlight pins?
I recently bought an X10S for my next custom tx project and, obviously, had to dismantle it to measure everything. When I reassembled, the display backlight was no longer working. Does anyone know the pin(s) I might check, or apply voltage to to try to test the display backlight? If nothing else I f...

Further measuring adventures etc suggest the type is the 'GH'. 1,25mm pitch, some exaple available on aliexpress can be seen at https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000583740651.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.4a4c70a7sRBCix&algo_pvid=86d03326-21cf-4df8-a5db-e56c8257a309&algo_exp_id=86d03326-21cf...

Re: X9E upper display testing?
Well, this was a 'fun' story. After some delay in getting anything done due to parts of life one would prefer to avoid I finally got a replacement upper screen and... nothing. I couldn't believe the new screen would be dud, and in deed the main board was new, too. I double checked the cable I had ex...

JST connector type used in X10? (JST GH 1.25mm pitch)
Does anyone know which variety of JST connector is used in the X10 for the gimbal/switch wiring? I *think* it might be the ZM series; it's certainly smaller than the PH ones in the Taranis X9E. I need to make some small extensions for another one onf my custom case experiments...

Re: X9E upper display testing?
There's a good 5v between Vcc & Gnd and partial volatages showing my old multimeter for the other pins, which I'll take as evidence of assorted duty level digital signals. So it looks like something fritzed the display. And of course, the availabiltiy of a replacement is currently asymptotically...

Re: X9E upper display testing?
Ah, thanks. The VCC & GND I can handle; I imagine the LED VCC is the same value ? And if the LED - is switched then it presumably changes at the point where the initial startup completes and the display would normally wake up. I don't have a 'scope at home but there are some at my makerspace. I'...

X9E upper display testing? (SOLVED)
After all my recent 'fun' of rebuilding my X9E, it looks like sometihng has gone wrong with the upper display. :o The tx turns on and the main screen is fine; the new rotary encoder board I made works fine, all the buttons do their thing, etc. But no upper dislay... I've dismantled and pulled the ca...

Re: X9E rotary encoder wiring/pinouts
Well, this might be interesting to somebody else some day, so herewith a description of the board in question. Whilst pondering the job of soldering I wondered if the pins etc were conveniently layed out to match veroboard. Turns out to be so. So, I cut a small rectangle of veroboard, desoldered the...

Re: X9E rotary encoder wiring/pinouts
It's certainly easier to see than the real one! These days I simply can't focus close enough to see such small things adequately. It's certainly going to be fun to solder... If I've found info on the right items to compare online, the pins connect to (from top) A GND B Switch GND Does that sound abo...

X9E rotary encoder wiring/pinouts
I had to replace the main board in my X9E; tediously long sotry behind that. One of the results was having to unsolder the little carrier board for the rotary encoder, and of course, resoldering it on the new main board. In the process of unsoldering I seem to have managed to remove the pcb traces i...

Re: Vario tones not working
I’d like a better answer too- I use a heavily modified version of mike Shellim’s setup and trying to copy that piecemeal to make a “clean” version is more than @ little complicated. How can one wipe the rx details from a model? Assuming of course that that is the problem.

Well I'll defer to your recollection on the exact dates Mike. It was a loooooong time ago, whichever way we take it. relocating the module bay/audio/usb/trainer sockets
I'm working on a new case design and I'd rather like to relocate the set of connectors of the rear of the back-board off to the side; I guess we're talking ~4" away from their current location, under one of the hand-rests rather than centred and sticking out the bottom. Screen Shot 2015-04-06 a...

Thanks- I've ordered the parts and we'll see how it goes.
I'm still interested to know about better quality aerial units though; not higher gain but simply mechanically better made. The original broke so very easily.

Re: Broken tx aerial
I think that would be why the adaptor was mentioned. Yes, I could obviously get a straight replacement just as I mentioned in my original message but if something a bit tougher is available I'd like that. At least an adaptor and a screw on aerial would make it easy to replace again in the future.

Re: Should rates and expos go in inputs or mixer?
One very important side-effect of having many ways of doing things is that it means many times more lines of documentation to explain. Given how hard it is to write good doc, that isn't a trivial concern. And of course it means more stuff to understand, which stretches us lot of us...

Re: Broken tx aerial
If the soldering skills are available, I'd get one of these, RF coax assembly or, similar, cut ufl connector off, and, solder in place. Shapeways has an adaptor for the case that is very nice. OK, so you get that part, solder to the main board, make adaptor to suit case and then use what actual aer...

Broken tx aerial
I managed to break the aerial on my taranis. So far as I can work out it simply snapped the coax/wire when the plastic cover got separated from the mount in transit. It's not like it's a well made component... Sure, I can order a replacement and I can find a friend with better soldering skills than ...
