I think the through hole would be popular just on the cost front, plus through hole components are easier to get hold of. Add to that you can use stripboard even easier for people to use. I know its not really the done thing but you could always tilt the resistors over a bit i.e. 45 deg.

The reichel.de option is out of the window 10 euro min order and 19 euro post, On the plus side you can order just the quantity you want. I did a quick add to my basket of caps and resistors and it came to just over 4 euros.

That depends on if you want the new features that new versions usually bring although sometimes it is to fix a bug but there are few and far between. Its that Mike fella he's just too good.

Have you insulated between the sound module and your strip board, I know that there are not many bits sticking through the sound board but you only need one to create a short.

Your not moving the goal posts again are Mike, although I cant really complain I'm getting a dab hand at making voice files now. actually I need to learn how to manipulate voices to make them sound like someone/something else.

If you did not specify a two line serial module then you will have got the mp3 module, I did the same when I ordered mine. When I got the right one the only way to tell the difference was there was 1_1 on the rear of the board.
