Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

All this talk of RX number range for the module, but at least in OpenTX companion you can't go higher than 20 anyway. I'm running version 2.0.13.

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

I have problems with some receiver numbers with certain RX's. I'm not sure if there is anything official, but I think folks keep their RX numbers under 20.

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

I thought HobbyKing used to sell flysky modules but didn't find them on the website. Maybe they only came bundled with the 9x? They are out there though: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DU4A3XM/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1535523722&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

I have upgrade to 2.0.12 and Companion is showing the RX numbers and I had no trouble flying my hack module in DSMX mode today.

DSM hack module support is a great feature, even if we have other DSM module options these days. Thanks for bringing it 2.0

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

Firmware has been a little 'unstable' above 2.08 so I have been holding off. Note that Companion for 2.08 doesn't give you the ability to edit/change RX numbers when dsm/x is chosen.

Someone who really knows what they were doing figured out the circuit (not me) so I wouldn't be able to explain 'why' the circuit is the way it is. This one is mine if it helps: http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=541&start=150#p48608 Are you using a 3.3v bec, or did you harve...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

I can't see of a way to troubleshoot your circuit via this forum and your building skills may be far above mine anyway. For me, I had to double check the diode directions. At some point between 2.0.10 and 2.0.11, DSM was broken. But it was fixed with the newly compiled versions of 2.0.11 and probabl...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

Yeah, but I am using/testing micros that don’t have bind plugs. My biggest offender as far as needing to rebind is a 130x. I have an as3xtra that occasionally needs to rebind, and a nano cpx that never needs to be rebound.

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

This makes sense now. The DX8 tells you if it binds dsm2 or dsmx, but the dx6 does not. This must be the 2 way protocol you were talking about on the dx8. The dx6 module may just be redetecting the protocol type on each RX initialization like you are describing above. It sounds like the taranis impl...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

Does that make sense? The dx4e and dx5 seem to be able to switch back and forth when they are connected to their original 'host' radio. But then again, I'm way out of my expertise here. If this is the case, would it make sense (or work) to force the module to use DSMX when DSMX is selected? If the R...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

So there should be no problem choosing dsmx for everything since it auto switches? Since I'm setting everything for dsmx, but I have a mix of aircraft that support both protocols (some are dsm2 only), is that why I have to rebind? Most of my spektrum BnF are mini so I don't care, but I have a vision...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

Is there information on what to expect with this first release of DSM2 support for opentx on Tarnis? Is the only ‘bullet proof’ ...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

I noticed a potential problem with Companion 1.52 and OpenTX 2923. In Companion9x with LP45 or DSMX, you get the message "EEprom saved with these warnings: opentx doesn't accept this protocol" when you attempt to simulate from the 'edit model' screen. If you setup a model using dsmx on the...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

The updated version is working for me with the external module. Bound to 3 Micro BnF and did some indoor test flights. So far, so good. Looks good on Companion 1.52, but I haven't tried uploading/downloading dsm models yet. As far as the modes, DSM2 or DSMx, I believe DSM2 forces DSM2 binding, even ...

I didn't think it would be there in companion yet, since companion hasn't been updated yet (at least for windows, I haven't check for linux). Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

Have you tried using some different RX numbers in the model setup and different distances between model and TX? Re: T9X mod to use Flysky module, Frysky module and DSMX mod

For me, using a 3.3v ubec seemed to be the easiest way to go. I use the old dx4 for a simulator now, but I don't know what removing those parts will do to the dx4. It was hard enough just to get the module unsoldered with braid and a solder 'sucker'.

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

Question that appears relevant Do the same limitations occur when a DIY DSM2/DSMX module is installed in other OpenTx transmitters or is it just a Taranis problem? Looking at companion9x, I think er9x only holds 16 models and the "RX number" must be hard coded to the model slot since it d...

From a troubleshooting point of view, is this experience something that some of us could try to duplicate as well? I am just binding micros right now, so there is no binding plug. After a few seconds the controller on the micro goes 'solid'. I stop th...

Re: Taranis and DSM2 mods

Thanks Kilrah. I checked out out build 2856 and compiled it with the DSM2=PPM option. All tests so far are good. No issue switching back and forth between dsm2 and dsmx models either. Like you thought, my issues were from using the bleeding edge release instead of a stable version.
