Re: support for other Linux distros

I run Slackware, which has a very useful program included for converting .deb and .rpm files to .tgz. deb2tgz <filename> converts .deb files and rpm2tgz does the same for rpm files. Works like a charm most of the time, and never had a problem with companion.deb files. There is a program called "...

OpenTx-2.3.5 multi-module support missing?

Just went to download the 2.3.5 update for my X9D and X10S and noticed that there no longer seems to be a multi-protocol module option in the download (Companion-2.3.5). I can't see any reference to this in the changelog. Has it been dropped, or perhaps incorporated elsewhere? I do use a multi-proto...

Re: Switch warnings

Hi Mike, I'm not quite with you. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I'm talking about the "switch on" warnings you get when you first power up the Tx - or switch models. As far as I can see, the only way to change these is to put the switches in the desired position and do a long "enter&q...

Switch warnings

OK, this is a bit of an unusual one - and may end up as a feature request if it can't be done already! Is it possible to set a warning when a switch is NOT in a specific position? I have a couple of electric helis - one very large - and I use SF as a "throttle hold" to prevent an accidenta...

Re: New X10S firmware?

Bingo! It worked! <HUGE sigh of relief!>

Many thanks! I'd got into the habit of updating my X9D from the SD card, so remembering all the steps to do it from companion - especially when there seems to be a new option in FrOS - was making me doubly cautious!

Cheers,

Re: New X10S firmware?

Thanks for the prompt reply! As this is a brand new radio, I'm taking the warnings about "bricking" it quite seriously, so forgive me for being very cautious here! The procedure seems to contradict both the documentation I have (Dec 4 2017) and the youtube guides! Can you please confirm: 1...

New X10S firmware?

Not sure if this is the right section for this question, but here goes anyway! I've just treated myself to an X10s as an upgrade from my trusty (and very early) X9D. I want to install OpenTx, but it looks as if FrSky have changed their firmware, as it does not behave as expected. The version I have ...

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Update: I think I now have a setup that meets my requirements. The idle speed is no longer affected by changes to the throttle curve, and I seem to have the full range of functions normally expected. I'm attaching a copy of my file, all comments gratefully received! I'll get around to writing up a f...

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

OK, I think I can see light at the end of the tunnel! I had mistakenly applied the input to the "pitch" mixer (ch6) to be "Thr" instead of "Ptch". Once I corrected that, things started to behave more rationally! I've still got a bit of fiddling to do, but I think I now ...

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Hm! That's what I tried doing, but it seems to carry the throttle curve (1) over into the pitch channel as well. Mind you, I hadn't applied any curve to the pitch channel. I was expecting it to just go from -100 to +100 as I moved the throttle stick, but instead it followed the throttle curve. I wil...

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Kilrah: I've been playing around with your idea on the companion simulator, but I can't get it to work properly. The problem is that the throttle stick on the transmitter serves two functions on a helicopter - throttle and collective pitch - each of which requires a different curve. If I apply a thr...

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Kilrah: Thanks for your input! I must admit that it never occurred to me to apply the curves at the input stage. I was under the impression that adjustments for throw of any kind were best done in the mixers. I will give that a try! Yes, you are right, you can check the idle by checking the channel ...

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Thanks Mike! Much appreciated! You can clearly see where I was coming from, and my concerns!

It was the unexpectedness of having the throttle curve affect the idle, when the option for "throttle trim - idle-only" was selected!

Cheers,

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Hi Mike, and thanks for your input! I suspected that not many of the devs fly i/c helis, which is why I tried to describe the issue in detail! With JR now seemingly withdrawing from the model market - and with most UK heli flyers using JR - I can see a few more FrSky sets being sold to i/c heli flye...

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Hmm, if you are applying a curve, you are changing the values of the channel for a given position of the stick.. I believe the trims are applied to the stick, before you apply the curve. So, yes, if you change the curve to accelerate the engine, you will have to decrease the trim to keep the idle a...

Re: Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Joao, Both already done! I already had a "kill switch" programmed - but didn't have enough hands to reach it quickly! One was hanging on to the rotor-head, the other trying to chuck the starter away! It was quickest and easiest to pull the fuel line! I also already had the "Trim Idle ...

Throttle trim - potentially dangerous!

Sorry for the subject header, but I gave myself quite a fright recently due to an unexpected behaviour of the throttle trim function! My transmitter is an original X9D and using OpenTx-2.1.9 For the first time, I've been setting up an i/c powered helicopter on the Taranis. I don't know how familiar ...

Re: Cross trims?

Yes, my Ace MicroPro (1995!) has the instant trim feature - you can even vary the slew rate. I thought the Taranis had it, but I'm not sure where its hidden! My problem occurred on the first flight of a new model. I subsequently discovered that the instructions gave the wrong location for the CofG -...

Re: Cross trims?

Thanks! Took me a while to find it, but you're right! Its there!

But is there anyway of setting so that cross trims are the default, rather than having to program it separately for each model? You don't want the trims varying depending on which model you select....!

Cross trims?

I recently managed to switch off my Taranis in flight, whilst desperately trying to reach the elevator trim for a wildly out-of-trim model! My own stupid fault, but easily done! My old Ace MicroPro transmitter has the trims crossed ie: Aileron trim where you would expect the rudder trim and elevator...

Re: Aileron stick bug ?

Good point! I had to sort out a Taranis for a mate on Friday - he was only getting travel on one side of the stick. He had inadvertently set up a mix on one side only which subtracted the movement from itself! Don't ask me how he managed that, but clearing the mix solved the problem!

+1 for the calibration!

Taranis stick calibration

Remember to do the knobs and sliders as well as the sticks!

Once done, you shouldn't need to touch it again unless you physically move or change any of the internal pots.

Sounds like the X6R is bricked. I'm not aware of any way of recovering from this - you've tried everything I would have tried! Re: Frsky - Europe needs the D8 protocol and D-Recievers

So, does this mean that the D8 Mode is also LBT - and if not why is it available on the Tx Module firmware? No, it is not LBT, nor does any transmission *have* to be LBT to be EU compliant. BUT, if it is not LBT (or equivalent), then it is restricted to a 10% Media Utilisation Factor - ie: it can o...

Bernd: If the transmitter was manufactured (note: *manufactured* - not sold or bought) before January 2015, then it is perfectly legal to use D8 and LR-mode even if you have installed the LBT firmware. If it was *manufactured* after January 2015, then you are only supposed to use EU compliant firmwa...

I still have my Grundig Variophon/Varioton set in full working order (1965). I still have my Bonner Digimite-8, in working order (1967). Furthermore, both are still legal to use. I'm not sure about the Digimite, which might fail on spurious emissions, but I believe the Grundig set would still pass t...
