Re: DSM for dummys?

Most owners just upgrade their TH9X to something like a 1300Mah 11.1vdc Lipo, if they fly every day they might only have to charge it once a month. Even a DX7 with a 10.8vdc will work with one. I thnk even the toy dsm radios can run on a small 2s Lipo with 7.4vdc rating. Most v regulators are pretty...

Re: DSM for dummys?

I just did not want to burn up the regulator as the batteries originally used in the DX4E total 6vdc and the Lipo in my TH9X is 11.1vdc. So if it takes up to 12vdc it should work. I was going to order one of those 3.3vdc UBEC's on Ebay for $6.90 but if this works and has been for you and others, it ...

Re: DSM for dummys?

I got it working, It was a combination of three screen settings. The first was the mode, Second was in the settings menu, Third was in the model type. It took a couple of times to get it where it stayed put. I have a module from a DX4E And was wondering If I could use the same 3.3 V tap On the TH9X ...

Re: DSM for dummys?

The aileron and throttle were reversed in setup because it was set on mode 1. I set it to mode 4 which is TAER then set them up in the same order in the mix control menu. But the throttle is still running the motor only when I push the left stick to the right. I thought maybe the firmware flash did ...

Re: DSM for dummys?

Thanks, I remember seeing stick modes but I must have missed something in the setup, (that's why it ended up as ATER). I try that and post how it worked out. I'm running the ER9X firmware v732 I think.

throttle is left to right

Hello all, well i have my th9x all flashed and binding to orange r610 units. However the throttle only works when the left stick is moved from left to right, I can not seem to find where to change the axis, only to reverse the stick and that is not the issue here. Has anyone ran across this problem ...

Re: DSM for dummys?

Why then are there antennas on the retail spektrum and frsky plug n modules? If that were the case then the modules would use the existing antenna when they are plugged in. Or am I missing something here in the general question? Sorry but when I posted this the original question seemed to vanish, it...

Re: DSM for dummys?

Just wanted to thank everyone for their help first of all. I finally solved the problem I was having with the LP4DSM module not binding. Seems that when I was soldering the 47k resistor the trace broke off on the circuit board, since the photo showed multiple locations of the signal and 3.3v I decid...

Re: DSM for dummys?

OK I found the splash screen by holding the left button to get into general setup menu, however with protocol on DSM2 and DSM2/DSMX it still does not bind to orange RX RC610 model.

Re: DSM for dummys?

Can't seem to find the splash screen going through the setup of the ER9X firmware, I downloaded and installed the newest version before I flashed. Do I have to use the EEPE program to disable the splash screen?

Re: DSM for dummys?

I recently received my USB programmer and re-flashed the TH9X TX to the ER9X program. Everything went well without a hitch and program completed successfully. Here is the problem, using an Orange RX RC610 receiver on and flashing in bind mode I then hold the trainer switch while turning on the Trans...

Re: DSM for dummys?

I'm in the process of hunting down a serial ribbon cable right now. Seems most of the ones laying around were scrapped. The how to guide here shows a 10 pin cable I beleive but they are not using all ten. Good photo showing orientation of the pins though. Thanks

Re: DSM for dummys?

Correct, I need all switches in the up or away position for the thing to boot. Th9x is only a couple weeks old and has the firmware that shipped with it. Guess I have to do some more soldering and reading right?

Re: DSM for dummys?

Well I got everything connected but when I turn on the trainer switch while powering up the TH9X the screen reads "switch error" so I can not even get to the DSM screen. The modules light comes on but nothing else happens.

Re: DSM for dummys?

Yes you are correct in that it has no resistance (hence the 000), they probably had more than one designer of the board or it did not pass the first round of tests so they started jumping things until it worked sufficiently. I wish I would have mounted the board to a piece of perforated hobby board ...

Re: DSM for dummys?

looks to me like that is just a jumper and not a resistor. it's marked 000. The low power unit should run ok on the stock 3.3v regulator. I would run it for awhile before flying anything to be sure. I thought the zeros were values of resistence, as I've seen single, double, and triple all on one ci...

Re: DSM for dummys?

I was going with a miniature DPDT with the center left controlling the ppm and the center right controlling the voltage. But after reading the thread about the module change I think that may be a cleaner way to go. Relocate existing antenna, mount new DSM electronics in a blank module, wire a female...

Re: DSM for dummys?

The mod info doesn't mention whether to disconnect the original antenna, I planned on using a switch so I can go between Turnigy and DSM. Guess that just goes in line with the power to the LP4DSM. My photos do not seem to be showing up in the post. Thanks

Re: DSM for dummys?

The yellow is where the printed circuit came off the board, probably because the diodes leads where too think and I could not hold the board very good. I ended up soldering to the resistor but it is on the signal side. Let me know what you think and I do not need to add a regulator correct as I'm us...

Re: DSM for dummys?

When I was soldering on the signal wire on my LP4DSM board the printed circuitry came off, so I soldered the 1N4001 diode to the signal side of where the 4.7K resistor connects. Would this be ok as I do not want to burn anything up. The radio is brand new. Here is where I got the mod info from. TH9X...
