Hello!
Has anyone managed to set transmitter on simulator?
Realflight simulator does not recognize my transmitter.
I also have an older version of Turnigy 9x and there is no problem of setting after a few modifications with resistor......
Does anyone know the solution?

Best regards

I have it configured in realflight rc7, and had no problem. In which port are you connecting?

In which port are you trying to connect? If its with the futaba port, you need to switch on the radio.

With the JR/Spektrum port you don't turn on. Plugging in the cable turns on just the encoder.

Note that you should turn Trainer OFF in the Model Setup, General menu. Counter intuitive I know, but it refers to using the transmitter as Master, while for sim use it must be functioning as slave.. The trainer option is asking whether it wants to receive through the trainer port -- you want it to send.

I'm not sure whether RF requires a particular shift polarity in Protocol. Mine is set to POS and it works OK with Phoenix. The protocol should of course be PPM.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Mike issued a new version of ersky9xr today. Now Trainer can be either ON or OFF and polarity should be NEG. This makes it consistent with ER9x.

Thanks, but i still got no signal from tx.
I still do not understand what to do.

The Pro works fine with a simulator. Please tell us what version of firmware, whether you are using the JR (audio jack) or Futaba trainer port and whether you have a module installed. I'll test it and provide instructions. Unlike the 9x with stock module, there is no need for a resistor solution..

Are you inserting the trainer cable into the JR socket with the radio ON or OFF? Please plug the jack connector with the radio OFF.

So you are using an old version of RF without the Controller or other official interface? But you said it worked OK with a 9x with resistor mod.

Please specify which version of the firmware you are using.

I can't, of course, duplicate your sim setup, so the best I can do is to tell you that the following settings on my 9XR Pro, running the latest test firmware, work fine with Phoenix, which should have the same input requirements as RF.

First thing to do is always to look at the graphic main screen to make sure the transmitter is doing something reasonable on at least the first four channels. Also, remove the module, just to keep things simple.

Nothing special needs to be done in the Radio Setup menus. Just make sure you have the right mode. And I believe RF uses AETR channel order. The Trainer menu doesn't matter, as it determines how the transmitter functions as Master, which for sim use the TX needs to serve as a Slave.

In the Model Setup menu, with your Phoenix model chosen, make sure the Protocol settings are:
Proto PPM 8CH 400 usec (it may work on the default 300 usec or 350, so you can try these if you have problems)
PPM FrLen 22.5msec (try 22 and 25 if it doesn't work or jitters)
PPM Drive OpenDrain (default)
1st Chan 1
Shift Sel NEG (try POS if sim doesn't react -- this is something that may vary with firmware version)

You might also try turning on TRAINER in Model Setup, General. It shouldn't make a difference as it's concerned with the Tx as Master, but I think it did in one version.

Good luck.

I also see that that dongle is for the FMS Sim and for what i know it will not have the driver to use with another sim that not the specified one.
Correct me if im wrong.
This one below is allways a good option, since its all in one:

or if you like it buy the original one, since we should support software developers.

I'm just thinking about simulators. I used the FMS one some time ago, although when I replaced my main computer some years ago, I didn't bother to re-install it. However, when I did use it, I built a PIC based device to convert from PPM to serial so I could use my Tx to control it.
So, thinking about this, I could probably add a FMS serial output driver to ersky9x.
Anyone interested?

Mike.

Why not making ersky9x behave as a joystick over USB/Bluetooth?? ;)

Because I can add something to output serial quite quickly, which might go out over bluetooth which is serial anyway, while the USB joystick solution will take rather longer. Does FMS handle enough channels over a joystick input anyway?

Mike.

But that will work only for FMS? Doesn't FMS work with a normal PPM to USB dongle?

I have no idea! I've actually just installed it, fixed the missing .dll file to let it run on Windows 7, and dug out my PPM to serial (PIC based) adapter. Plugged this into my SKY board 9X and it all worked!
This definitely uses 19200 baud serial.
What, exactly, does a "normal PPM to USB dongle" actually do?

Mike.

I said it wouldn't take long!
I just have a small initialisation problem to fix, but I have the FMS running directly from COM2 on my SKY board. This should therefore also work on the 'PRO.

I assume that, if i choose the BT as trainer on, then master is enabled and off means as slave, right? I have HC-05.

No, but that's an idea ;)
At the moment as far as I know, it is only possible to receive trainer input over BT. Not send.. Unless Mike has some surprise for us, of course

Ok. What about BT as command mode, means that i can use this option to "issue" AT commands like for arduino?

Re: 9xr pro simulator

Posted: Tue Feb 03, 2015 5:13 pm
by MikeB
This is to put a HC-05 BT module into command mode where it accepts AT type commands. Combined with setting COM2 to "pass to BT" mode, it means I can type commands on a terminal and check exactly what the BT module does. This will then help me to code up the functions needed to get a HC-05 to pair with another BT module.
As with a lot of things, this needs me to find enough time to do it.

Mike.

Ok, its just that i've seen that its possible to change from master to slave and vice versa, via AT command. I thought that that was already possible, but according to João BT usability its still very limited, so ill just wait your further development instead of venturing myself into "murky" areas. :).

Hi to all,

today I received Phoenix RC V5 and I can´t get my Turnigy 9XR PRO (ersky9x-r202 V.3309) to communicate with the sim.

I´ve jacked the dongle in the JR socket, Phoenix recognizes my Tx (as the display lights up when inserting the cable), but it doesn´t get any signals while calibrating. No matter if module (Orange RX) is inserted or not.

I´ve setup a 4ch model in the tx - the display shows movement when I move the sticks - but the signals doesn´t arrive in Phoenix. I´ve set trainer to "on".
My signal setup is:

Proto PPM 8CH 300 usec
PPM FrLen 22.5msec
1st Chan 1
Shift Sel POS

I even tried another tx (Graupner MX-16) with which the sim works properly, so the dongle has to be ok. There must be sth. in my turnigy, which is set wrong, but even after 3h of trying, I can´t find where I am doing wrong.

Every hint or help is welcome!

Regards,
Robin

Hi Robin,

welcome here.

I don't know much about the pro and sims but
please try to set trainer to off, 'cause the trainer TX receives signals from the student.
You want to send a signal so your TX must be set as student.

It's not clear from what you wrote so: Insert trainer cord while TX is switched off.

Protocol and frame length seem OK so try to play with Shift Sel.

Cheers
Klaus

Hi Klaus,

thanks for your answer.

I´ve inserted the cable while the Tx was switched off (and I didn´t switch it on afterwards), but as the notice in the Sim disappeared, that no Tx is connected, I assumed that my Tx was recognized.

It just didn´t send signals to the Sim (or the Sim didn´t receive them), as any stick or switch movement wasn´t recognized while calibrating.

I´ve misunderstood the trainer option: I thought I am the one who is trained, so my Tx is allowed to send signals. I´ll change and try it later again with trainer off!

Regards
Robin

Try changing the shift from POS to NEG.

Agree. The symptoms are consistent with wrong shift. The transmitter is putting out a signal but it doesn't include pulses.

Received my PhoenixRC 5.0 yesterday.
After struggling with calibration of Phoenix I got all 8 channels working.

Proto PPM 8CH 300 usec
PPM FrLen 22.5msec
PPM Drive OpenDrain
1st Chan 1
Shift Sel POS (ersky9X-r214 / V.534 / 26.02.2015)
(connected via JR socket)

My problem was that I first didn't realize the way Phoenix distinguishes pots and switches.
Every channel that is centered while starting calibration is recognized as pot,
every channel that is at one of its extreme points is recognized as switch.

So if you want to use a 3-way-switch (e.g. for flaps) you have to leave it in mid position.
Otherwise it's recognized as 2-way-switch and at worst oszillates in mid position.

Edit: forgot to say that 3-way-switches have to be put to the end points while calibrating pots,
not while calibrating switches!

Klaus

Thanks for the clarification. Just one addition for anyone trying it: if it doesn't work, try NEG shift. The polarity setting was changed in the latest version.

so I cant get my 9xr pro to connect with a 3.5 pack. Do I have to use the futaba cable port.
I am using SmartPropoPlus. It see's 8 channels but the channel levels do not change when I move the sticks.
I have adjusted the setting and stated above but it still does not work.
