Bitcraze Crazyflie on OpenTX

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

Bitcraze Crazyflie on OpenTX

Post by bstott »

Hi All Coders and Modders ---- I haven't read of anyone looking or playing with the Bitcraze Crazyflie micro quadcopter. Does anyone have one?
  • Crazyflie Specs
  • STM32103
  • Invensense MPU-6050
  • magnetometer HMC5883
  • altimeter MS5611-01BA03
  • radio@1mW based on the nRF24L01+ chip
  • Radio bootloader which enabled wireless update of the firmware
Crazyflie is here: http://tinyurl.com/cns9e45

This should be a slam dunk to make a profile and mod the 9X radios to get this little quad off it's wireless USB to PC connection and onto our OpenTX based radios. Yeah?

Anyone?

P.S. I did get one - evidenced by the picture. But - as many sods - I am not a coding person. But, If you have one I did design the bumpers to protect it. :) Just print them and you are good to fly - Crazyflie! See: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:87149

Been there..... Don't want to do it again!

I like that little quad. Especially liked the inductive charge and vision hacks.

I wouldnt call it a 'slam dunk to make a profile and mod the 9X radios to get this little quad off it's wireless USB to PC '

My guess is you would need a nRF24L01+ module for the 9x. modified opentx firmware to support the module. The current module uses a USB implementation so that would need to be recreated on the opentx firmware, or else modify the crazyradio firmware to support whatever input protocol opentx is putting out. Hopefully there may be an easier way

Still I like the little quad. Imagine a swarm of them like a school of fish

Would likely require developing an external module like for these:

I had to look it up. The A7105 module referenced in that thread is compatible with the nRF24L01 in at least some applications. So yea, that could be a working method to get it to work.
