Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
Guys........plan to built a simple current sensor for 9xr pro......been thinking of getting a hall effect current sensor rated 50 Amps.
The output of current sensor is just a very small......but can easily use OP Amps circuit to output 0 to 3 volts.......this corespond to 0 to 30 Amps......and connect it directly to A2 analog input of telemetry receiver such as any D series receiver.
I was able to display 0 to 2.4 volts.......or can make it display 0 to 24.5 to my 9xr pro.
I am not so familiar with the 9xr pro yet.......
Is there a way we can make 9XR Pro computer the AmpHour consume on the 9XR PRO..?
Saw something about the scripting, but have no idea how to use it.

Re: Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
You need to measure the current from the radio itself?
If so the radio, at least with Ersky9x, already measures its own current because it has already a sensor. It is R9 on the PCB where the module pins are.
This sensor gets broken quite easily though and some 9XR-PRO radio users had to solder a wire across this sensor because they damaged it somehow. So they lose the ability to measure the radio's current.
If your radio is one of those, then you will have to get a new sensor to replace the damaged one..

Re: Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
João: He is measuring the current at the receiver.
In the telemetry menu, configure the A2 input to measure current (change the 'v' to 'A') and set the ratio to calibrate the value correctly.
Further down the menu, configure the "Current Source" to be A2.
The telemetry value "Mah" will then be the milli-Amp-Hour consumed.

That was my first thought also, but then I had the feeling he was talking about the radio itself.. Language barrier probably.
Since I live in Germany my English got a bit worse I guess

Re: Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
Thanks Mike and Joao......very fast respond.......will test it on monday.......
Was able to read 0 to 24.5 reading on 9xr pro ....... to simulate 0 to 24.5 amps....
Here is my actual video.....

Re: Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
Please do a search in this forum for openXsensor or oXs.
It is a sensor based on an arduino pro mini board. You can build it with many sensors, meaning you can build your own vario, current sensor, RPM sensor, voltage sensor, etc. You can also monitor individual cells.
You can have several sensors connected to the arduino and send the information to the radio..
This is an open source project.
It is what I use on all my models.
Build it and program it. It will save you some headaches..

Re: Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
Yes.....already downloaded the OpenXsenor.....thats my final plan.
At the Moments my need is to measure the Amps-hour consumed by my Helicopter.....just need a simple current sensor.
Been using EagleTree data logging to log current, temp, rpm .........its just record everything Onboard......need to connect the Eagletree to Laptop computer to monitor all flight data..........its very inconvinient.
With the 9XR Pro.........all flight data can be automatically save to MicroSD card in the transmitter.......I can practically save all of my RC Flight in MicroSD

Re: Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
That is what openXsensor can do. It doesn't connect to the receiver via A2, but over serial. I have built an oXs sensor that measures the current and voltage of one of my airplanes. Actually, I flew that plane today.
It uses an Hall effect current sensor connected to the arduino board.
Yes, that is what we do since years now.. That is nothing new. We are trying to help you by showing you how you can easily do it, but it seems you also want to show us how to do it?? I am confused. With the 9XR Pro.........all flight data can be automatically save to MicroSD card in the transmitter.......I can practically save all of my RC Flight in MicroSD
Let me see if I have a video of my oXs working, and i will post it.

Re: Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
Joao......wow.....Thats Great.......I am just beginning to migrate to 9xr pro.......I came from Hitec Aurora 9 radio, have sold all my Futaba Radio.......and shifted to Hitec Aurora 9 , this Aurora 9 is the most advantage Telemetry during their initial release.....Hitec has the most complete telemetry sensor......and Frsky is not yet born yet.......I guess Frsky got some idea Hitec telemetry.
Here my old video in 2011........its EagleTree datalogger........I just wish someone can make a Convertion Link to connect this Eagletree to OpenXsensor..........

Re: Simple Current sensor telemetry for 9xr pro
Ok.....I was able to make maH reading on 9xr pro.......have already ordered the ACS758 hall effect current sensor.
Been thinking of using LM324 , then just use 1 Op Amps for moving the 2.5 volts offset to ground Level.......then use another OP Amps for multipling the output from differential output to factor of 2 .....
what to make a 40 Amps maximum reading......its 40 millivolts per Amps X 40 Amps gives 1.6 volts .....then multiply it by 2 to get 3.2 volts ......whick is exact the maximum voltage input of FRSKY.......
Hope this work...........this do not use any microcontroller.......
I have also order the Arduino nano.......will eventual use this for the OpenXsensor.........
