Well, it seems I can not stop adding gadjets to the radio.

After replacing four 2-position switches with four 3-position ones, do you know if I can add some push buttons at the back of my 9xtreme? If yes, how many?

Is also possible to add them in the 9xpro?

Thanks!

Well, that depends on how many of the available digital pins have you used. :)

I believe it is possible to do it also on the PRO radio. It is the only radio I still didn't mod with the pushbuttons. It is on my ans though.
I did replace the 2 position ELE switch with a 3 position..

I dont remember how many pins I used, I installed two 3-pos switches on each side of the radio... I think I should have enough free pins, because the shocket is quite big. I will use the piece from the taranis gimball following your instructions too. But I think I should be able to install two push buttons on each side of the radio, right?

I am planning to use this switches, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2-Pins- ... autifyAB=1 do you think they will fit?

If you install the push buttons in the 9xr quote me, because I am interested on it!

EDIT: I might install this, because they are smaller: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/6pcs-se ... 742c&tpp=1

The problem is that I believe that at the moment only EXT 1 to EXT 4 are implemented in the Ersky9x firmware to be used as extra switches.

If what I said above is true, and Mike can confirm this or not, you have already used the 4 extra pins, so no, at the moment it is not possible to use the other pins..

About the switches you posted the links, you will have to make sure they don't hit the gimbals installed on the front side of the radio's case..
If you install the push buttons in the 9xr quote me, because I am interested on it!
If I do, i will post what I did here on the forum..

I just found the tutorial I followed: http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8443

In one side of the radio I have used EXT 6 and EXT 5, having free EXT 2 and EXT 1 at the other side of the radio I used EXT 4 and EXT 3 having free EXT 8 and EXT 7

So then, can I use EXT 2, 1, 8 and 7 for installing the push buttons? Mr Mike B, I invoque you! Lol

I have just checked my radio, I think I was wrong, and you might be able to use the other extra inputs. I use 5, 6, 1 and 2 for my switches, and i think 4 for my 3 position ELE switch..

Great news! Thanks :)

When I arrive home I will take a look to the software to see what I have to do.

You should be able to select EXT1 to EXT8 for switches and extra push buttons.

Thanks for confirming, Mike. I already ordered some push buttons. Ill update in a month or so when I receive them, lol.

It seems I cant stop adding things to the radio, and you, guys, are guilty.

Hi Joao, I have installed the push switches at the back of my radio. Well, at least the hardware part :D

After destroying a radio and damaging the 9xtreme, I am really worried about ruining everything again, so could you plase draw over my photo to see how should I solder them?

I want to solder the switches of one side to one conector, and the switches of the other side to the other connector. I am using the taranis plugs after cutting them.

IMG_20180224_112530.jpg
And yeah, I can close the radio and move the gimbals with no problem at all :D

It is on the first post anyway, but here you go..

EXT Pin numbers do not need to be the same as in the picture. You can use other pin numbers.. Then configure them in the "Hardware" Menu..

Hi Joao, of course I took a long and deep look to the first post, but it was not very clear to me. It is always to look a bit stupid asking than shorting something and having a stupid face forever, lol.

Anyway, thanks to your and Mr MikeB help I managed to install the four switches at the back of the radio... Finishing with this all the mods I could do... :D

I wont change this radio not even for 4 brand new taranis :)))))))

I wouldn't. In my opinion my 9xtreme radio, the way it is set, is far better than 4 Taranis :)
The same goes to my Ar9x radios..

Are the buttons working well??

Yup, they work perfectly, and I like the feeling a lot.

In case somedoby wants to have the same, I bought them here:

The only thing "in my opinion" the taranis X9D has better than any of "my" radios is the bigger screen.. All my radios in different flavors, except perhaps my 9x with m2561, can do the same or even better than the taranis radios. Not even mentioning that the 9x feels better in my hands and it has a much more logical button placement. My radios also all have a rotary encoder with center button and directional keys on them, The X9D doesn't and there is no space to add one :) I find the QX7 a bit better than the X9D in all aspects, but still not my cup of tea.. For me, Custom built 9x radios all the way :) ;)

EDIT: The last one in the cue is a Futaba 8FG.. Wonder why it is the last one? :mrgreen:Image

The QX7 is bad on battery compartment.
When I measure for different in size and shape, the
Taranis x9d and 9x are 97% the same.

“Bad” in what sense? It’s big enough for 6 AA cells.

“Bad” in the sense, do not want AA batteries because Lipo are a lot better and 9x more able to use different forms (shapes) of batteries.

Better is quite relative :) I use NiMh batteries on all my radios.. Safer to charge and discharge. I can forget my radios ON without destroying the batteries.. Not that I do that of course, but it can happen..

Just because here is a discussion about the different tx's, what about the 9xr Pro ?
I'm thinking of getting a 9xR Pro because I like Ersky more than ER9x, due to it's expanded capabilities.
And Ar9x(uni) is no more available.

But I do not really like the look of this tx.

Can I convert a mode 2 into mode 1 without bigger problems ?
Is it possible to fit the mainboard from the pro into a 9X ?

It is possible to convert the stick mode on the PRO although it is not as easy as with most of the other radios. :( It has been done and there are.videos on youtube teaching how to do it. You will have to move parts from one gimbal to the other.

I don't think someone already tried to move the PRO's mainboard to a 9x radio. And it is not the mainboard only. You would also need to move the module's board that has most of the power curcuit on it.. Not easy. But if you like the way the PRO looks, why would you want to do that anyway?? ;) :)

If you want to get one, hurry up because they are discontinued as far as I know. Don't even know if they are still available..

Yes he did say he doesn't like it, I can see it now. :)
This is what you get when you're over 50 and try to read the forum on your smartphone without reading glasses
By the way, I also do not like the looks of it, but I gotta say it does fit my hands really well, and i find quite comfortable flying my models with it. Not my main radio at the moment though, but it was for a couple years. I am using more the 9xtreme radio at the moment, and one of the Ar9x radios as a trainer TX for my son. Soon it will be his TX and become a main radio as well ;) :)

Thanks for your opinion.

So nothing really against it.

So, yes, I know that this radio is short of, but I saw one seller with a rather good price.

Hopefully someone will still develop some board that could be installed in the 9x radio.. Even if it is not customized for it.. Just like the ArUni.. This and the Ar9x were great projects.. Sadly not available anymore :(

Hopefully when the FrSky XLite comes out the mainboard will be available as spare, given the size it will likely be a good candidate for custom projects.

Maybe good time for HobbyKing to produce a 9x with the Sky-Board and Hall Sensor Gimbal.
Would sell very well.

I doubt it given that's what they had with the 9XR-Pro and the optional hall gimbals and they're discontinuing that too.
