Go to the SD card browser, find the file on the SD card, then when you select it you should have the option to flash the bootloader.

Is there any (official/unofficial) way to get a spare 9XR-PRO board? Would it be at least to some extent physically and electrically compatible with the original 9X chassis, gimbals and LCD?

Are you looking to upgrade a 9X to give it more power?
There are two boards becoming available that will do this:

I've been thinkin about the 9Xtreme, but as you said it's meant for er9x, which as opposed to openTX does not currently support MAVLink, which I'm rather fond of. I haven't heard of the ar9x before, looks promising.

The idea is that I want voice telemetry, but don't really care for the taranis- I don't use, nor do I want to use ACCST. I'd also appreciate a USB port.

I'm looking to get MAVLINK supported on ersky9x, but I don't have any MAVLINK source so testing it will be tricky.
It is intended to port openTx to the 9Xtreme.

IMHO you could try to flash the ardupilot to a 2560 arduino/clone and get a MAVlink out of it..

I made the modification according to these instructions and now I have a problem.
The stick cannot be moved to diagonal positions because of the 4 bumps on the face plate.

Try unscrewing the sticks grip (where you grab them with you fingers) and fix them higher, to see if ti does the trick.

@Myckey
Hi, did you had the same problem with the sticks bumping to the faceplate and not going to full extension as mentioned by frediix above?

Hi,
after installing 3-pos switches on my 9XR Pro, I'm about to add a rotary encoder.
I got one of these pcb mounted encoders on the Bay:

Image

They have 10K pull-up resistors on both data pins (CLK, DT), should I remove them or leave in place? :?: :?:

If you connect 3.3V to the + signal, you can leave them in place. The circuit on the 9XR-PRO doesn't use/need the + connection. If you don't connect the + then you need to remove the 10K resistors.
The firmware is expecting a quadrature encoder (A and B signals). Hopefully the CLK and DT signals of this encoder provide those.

Thanks Mike, that's what I thought.
I just removed the resistors as I will not be using the + pin. According to the specs the signals should behave like regular A, B.
Won't be able to test until tomorrow, I'll let you know the outcome.

Yes, it works like a charm (after removing the pull-up resistors :) )

For anyone interested, this is the Keyes encoder I bought but you can easily search for similar items in your local site:

Octavio, I installed it on the back side, so that I can rotate/press it with my right hand.
There is just enough space between the gimbal and the battery compartment.
I'm pretty sure there are more elegant solutions, but I got lazy
Also, I didn't want to substitute or move one the pots (P2 possibly?).
Sorry I only have a picture from the outside...

On mine, I have installed a slider on the throttle hand side using the P2 connections, then installed an encoder where P2 was..

Hi,
I managed to break the throttle gimbal of my 9xr-pro (mode 2) and obviously i needed to get another one. The problem is that hobbyking has them on backorder for some months now, so i decided to order a mode 2 ail/ele gimbal just to see if it did the trick. It fitted nicely, just like the normal one, but the wires were not the same length, and the lower wire plug was bumping a near by plug, so i had to do some fixing. The first image below what i did:
20151228_211156.jpg
and this second image shows the same plug disposition on the correct gimbal:
20151228_220227-1.jpg
So, i give you an advice that if the same happens to you and that gimbal isnt available, first you should order the mode 1 ele/ail one, because in this case you will only need to transfer the metal plate from one to the other, otherwise you must correct the length of the wires like i did.
After calibration all was good, yay.

This one is rather simple. I added JST connector to balance plug for battery. I really hate the way I have to pull the plug arround to disconnect every time I need to charge the battery.
IMG_20151230_014341.jpg
Connector brakeout bord already have space for additional connections so this was an easy fix.
IMG_20151230_014356.jpg
I tuck balance plug inside so no one would have desire to connect both connectors at the same time.

I am very sorry that designer didnt choose horizontal position of balance plug instead of vertical as there is quite enough space around.

EDIT:
A Word of warning: please make sure you use 3S battery if you change connector. You can demage your radio otherwize.
