Installing spektrum transmitter

Post by debay777 »

I have a DX6i with busted gimbles and a bad main board. Would it be possible to move the transmitter board to my 9xr? If I did, would I be limited to 6 channels?

Well if it's only 6 channels I don't want it. I'll just install the orange module and run with it.

The only way to get Spektrum model match is to use a hack module.

If you really need Model Match and 8 channels, you need a Spektrum DX8 or similar transmitter. If you can settle for 6 channels, the module hacked from your DX6i will do what you need.

I moved away from the 6 channel system to open up the potential for my multiwii board so I would rather not go back.

Best is to get rid of the Spektrum gear for good then.

It's been on my mind. The orx receivers take a massive price jump when you go past 6 or 7 channels. About the same as frysky. I'll either bump up or try a lemon receiver.

With frsky you can have telemetry. Range is also much better as far as I know..

FPV is definitely a long term goal but for now I'm LOS so long range doesn't effect me. I dont have telemetry gear on my plane so that isn't really a big feature for me right now. I'm mostly a flat foam flier on standard park flyer flat foamies. I'm building a tricopter for my go pro so I'm breaking into multiwii and will be experimenting with diff functions and all so I need the channels.

Thanks for all the advice. I opened the radio and saw the mess inside. KISS came to mind. Installed an empty module, drilled a hole in the top of it, installed an eflite antenna in the handle and routed it to the module bay. Inserted the board with the new antenna mounted and closed it all up. Nice and clean and simple. So far my champ flies great with it. Got it pretty high without a glitch. I also experimented with mixes and curves. Managed to make a curve mix for the rudder/elevator to give it some nose down on throttle up. Thanks again for the help.
