Megasound in 9XR

Post by adagiohr41 »

I'm still trying to fit the Megasound module into the 9XR case and even with a shoehorn and a bucket of grease I can't find room! One option is to remove 1/2 of the bottom of the battery tray (since I'm using two Lithium 14500 batteries for transmitter power) and raise it up a bit for clearance. Has anyone found a better solution for this application?

I managed to fit a megasound board at the top of the radio under the upper board. To get it in i had to make some slight modifications of the plastic. Nothing major, but some filing was needed. I fastened the megasound with a couple of dabs of hot glue. I then routed all the wires under the upper board to the main pcb. The result was a super clean instalation where you had to look hard to see the modification at all since both the megasound and the wires were under another board.

I do not have the radio any longer so I am afraid that I do not have any pictures. Good luck.

Hello
There is a lot of room on the side of the PCB, see the pictures.

Thanks to both of you for the response. I'm not so sure it will be easy to remote mount the micro SD holder ... I'll research for an extension cable similar to the one shown in the Audimega project. I tried to fit the Megasound board along the side as shown in the pics but I believe the Megasound board is a bit larger than the Audiomega. So I guess it goes at the top of the radio under the board as described. Dvogonen, How did you access the micro SD card?

If the megasound board you have has the latest FW in it, you don't need to remove the card to update the files.. it can be done via serial connection directly from eepe.. you will need a RS232 serial adapter though.. Not sure if FTDI works with it.
you would just need a 3 pin connector, like a servo connector.

If you are fitting the Megasound card to the 9XR. You don't have to worry about getting access to the SD card (after you have loaded the sound pack onto it) as you can update/add files to the card using the serial interface on the Megasound card. You can do it using Eepe via three wires (TX, RX & Gnd)

See this thread -----> http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3487

I see you got there first João ... :)

*Edit* I use an FTDI card to transfer files, as per information on my posts in the link/thread.

I can't believe after all the reading I've done and still missed that thread! Thanks ... OK, so now I have new questions since I'm technologically challenged. My Megasound card arrived a week or 2 ago so I'm assuming it is a version which can accept the serial data. I have a usb to serial adapter terminating in a 3 pin "J" connector interface. This is used for my FMA CellPro charger software. So providing I can interface the send and receive data pins correctly, it may work. I understand eepe already has the serial application but I'm still confused after reading the thread. Do I need to first prepare the Megasound in some way to accept the serial data? Then in eepe I just browse to the folder, select the file to transfer and pull the trigger, right?
