Taranis QX7 recommended as a beginners radio?
Taranis QX7 recommended as a beginners radio?
Hello guys,
a friend of mine is looking into rc gliders and I wanted to ask, if you can recommend it as a beginners radio? Are there any negative experiences or issues, for example with range or quality?
Thanks

I do not have the QX7 Taranis radio and yes, it is a good radio, good for beginners.
I do have the Taranis-X9D which I use erSky9x firmware on it.
I like the Taranis-X9D radio a lot as it is more radio then the QX7.

The quality of the QX7 is good. It has a full range internal XJT module, same as the Taranis, and the gimbals are the same.
It does come with a battery holder for loose AA cells, but I would recommend obtaining a (low self discharge) NiMh battery for it.
It comes with openTx on it, but ersky9x is also available to run on it.

Hi Koarl,
May want to look at the Taranis-Plus as for a little more money you get a lot more radio.
I just upgraded my Taranis-x9d radio with the M-9 Hall Effect Gimbals and it dose improve your control a lot more.
May also want to look at the "Taranis Plus Special Edition" which comes with the M-9 Hall Effect Gimbals installed.
It's not much more money in the long run for what you get and I like the Taranis-x9d / Plus / Special Edition case much better then the Qx7.

Re: Taranis QX7 recommended as a beginners radio?
Hello!
Thanks for your answers. I have a Taranis X9E by myself and I’m very satisfied with it. So this would be my recommendation too and in the long run the better investment. On the other hand side a cheaper entry level device, to find the way into the hobby, is also worth a consideration, especially when it is capable of most functions needed in rc gliders. If it can control a full house electric glider, then there is not much more that can be wished.
Anyway my friend is more on the cheap side, so maybe a used X9E would be an option too. What I can tell for sure, that he can not be convienced, to put the amount of money down, that is asked for a new X9E, to start the new hobby.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Taranis QX7 recommended as a beginners radio?
All frsky ( and most non frsky) radios can control full house gliders.
You forgot to mention that the X9E is a tray radio, that means not good for thumb flying. Not good for me for example, as I fly my models while moving the sticks with my thumbs. It is also a BIG radio as far as I know..
But it depends how the original poster wants to learn to fly..

An other option for a cheaper first time radio (sometimes when on sale about $65 and though will also need to buy a transmitter module too)
is the 9XR-Pro radio.
The 9XR-Pro Gimbals are not very good though, and it has a little smaller case size too, which leaves less room to do Gimbal mods in.
Oh, you have the same Taranis-x9d radio as I have !

Re: Taranis QX7 recommended as a beginners radio?
As far as I'm concerned, this is the best open source firmware based radio for a beginner. I would replace the firmware to Ersky9x of course. Immediately But I am obviously biased..ReSt wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2017 3:23 pm You can have the QX7 at a real good price I think

Still the best at the moment, even with the stock firmware..
