D4r-ii as wireless trainer for 2-X9D+ radios

Ive read thru forums last 2 days and I must be missing something. I have bound the d4r to the student radio with jumper on 3-4 ch. Ch1 signal cppm. I than tried to use module bay pins 1-3-4(from top) cppm-vcc-gnd. Is this correct? Also what other setup is needed? I saw one post saying that he cut the heartbeat signal. Is this possible to use module pins or do I need to go into radio and solder to pads. I dont see ppm signal in options for input source.

Pin 1 is PPM output, you need pin 2.
