Taranis Throttle/Elevator Mix Help.

Post by iflylilplanes »

I fly a Radian in an F5J comp for Radians only, the Radian doesn't like full throttle on launch, it will loop out of your hand, this I fixed with 12% down elevator mix at full throttle, works great for sports flying not for F5J. What I want/need is for the elevator mix to turn off a number of seconds after the F5JCAM kills the motor at 30 seconds, say 3 seconds saving me the need to hunt for the mix switch, and, stopping the mix re-engaging if I inadvertently push the throttle stick back up (I like to fly gliders with the throttle stick at full throttle, it's more comfortable flying that way).

So, I need a timer that will activate as soon as the throttle is engaged and bring the elevator back to neutral at 33 seconds after the throttle is activated, 3 seconds past motor stop. I think I've worded that properly, any ideas please?

Thanks,

Dave

I've been trying my hardest and all I have come up with is a timed switch that switches on for the 33 seconds then switches off for at the most 175 seconds then switches on again for the set 33 seconds again starting the cycle again, it would be Ok if I could set the off time for 10 or more minutes, but 175 seconds is the maximum the programing will let me set it. What I need is a one off cycle of the mix on launch and not again for the entire flight. Again, any ideas please?

Ok, as no one answered this question I will step in but I don't use openTX, therefore I son remember how the logical switch is called. But it is possible to do it I think.

In Ersky9x it is very easy.
Create a 1-Shot logical switch and set the trigger switch to your throttle switch. Let's call it "swX"

L1 1-Shot swX 33

This will turn L1 on for 33 seconds when your throttle starts. Then turn OFF.

Then program an ADD mix on your Ele channel controlled by the logical switch. Example:

Ch2 100% Ele
12% HALF switch(L1)

HALF is MAX in openTX

When the L1 turns the mix ON, 12% is applied to the Ele channel. As soon as L1 turns OFF, the elevator returns to its normal flight position.

João,
Thanks for the reply, I'm sitting at the PC with the Taranis plugged in, there is probably a 1 shot switch in the system, but I'm not up on the meanings of a lot of the symbols used in the opentx programming, i need to make a glossary of terms and symbols to keep in my manual.

Thanks Again,

Dave

I think in openTX is not called 1-Shot.. It is called something else..
If no one answers, I will try to have a look for you.
But I would also have a look at the openTX manual. It will help you understand the radio..

You may mind you can set a "duration" on a logical switch.

I've tried setting the duration, but it wont let me set above 20 or 30 seconds. Looked at the glossary on OpenTXU, but it is written in computer speak and needs a little dumbing down, I've been able in the past to get the Taranis to do what I want, this one use per flight switch is stumping me. The solution is probably looking me in the face but like I said it's in computer speak.

Try setting up three logical switches.
On one, set the duration to 25 seconds.
On the second set the duration to 25 seconds, but also set the delay to 8 seconds.
Make the third the "OR" of the first 2, and use this to control your mix.

Hi Mike, I've tried all different versions of your suggestion, plus a few of my own, close but no cigar. If only there was no limit in the time, 25 seconds is not enough, any idea why?
Anyway, I have setup an alarm that will annoy me until I turn it off, it starts after the allotted 33 seconds, it's jus not automatic, but it gets the same effect (the mix is turned off).

Thanks for the attempt, maybe one day it will come to me while I'm trying to create some other mix.

Cheers,

Dave

I tried my suggestion on companion, and it seemed to work correctly.
L1 AND !SA^ !SA^ duration(5.0)
L2 AND !SA^ !SA^ duration(5.0) delay(4.0)
L3 OR L1 L2
When I switch SA away from the UP position, L1 and L3 both turn on. 4 seconds later, L2 turns on. After another second (5 in total), L1 turns off, but L2 and L3 are both still on. After a total of 9 seconds, L2 and L3 both turn off.

So try:
L1 AND !SA^ !SA^ duration(25.0)
L2 AND !SA^ !SA^ duration(25.0) delay(8.0)
L3 OR L1 L2
and I ex[pect L3 to stay on for 33 seconds.

THe duration and delay values are most likely stored in a byte, so can only take values from 0 to 255, representing 0 to 25.5. I assume they are simply limited to 0 to 25.0.

Hi Mike,
The timer works great, activated at 33 seconds, but, I for the life of me could not get it to turn the mix off for any length of time, it's possible I have not made an adjustment in the mix screen correctly, I've tried all sorts of combinations, the switch only switches off for a second.

I thought my testing had the switch staying off permanently in companion (I don't use openTx on the radio).

No problem, it was a good try anyway, not necessary for the moment more an experiment, may have a need for what we have now for something in the future. Thanks again for the try.
