TARANIS + FVAS-02H + FAS-40 + D8R XP + GPS V2 (S.PORT)

Post by petaca »

For the experienced:
I have a FVAS-02H Variometer connected to an FAS-40 (via the Data In port).
And these sensors connected to a D8R-XP receiver. Everything works perfectly on my Taranis Plus display ....

However, when I connect a GPS sensor (V2) to the Smart Port of the FVAS-02H .... TARANIS DOES NOT DETECT THE GPS !! (It detects the other sensors perfectly).

Is there something wrong?
Any suggestions would be welcome.
thank you very much
Gabriel

Smart port only sensors can't be used on D receivers. The vario does D to Smart port conversion but not the opposite. Someone might have developed an arduino bridge but I'm not sure anymore, haven't used D stuff for years.

If you have the FrSky SP-GPS - Smart Port GPS Sensor (GPS-V2) (http://alofthobbies.com/frsky-sp-gps-sm ... ps-v2.html),
dose NOT work very well. And yes it is an S.Port sensor connection (X-Series), not the D-Series sensor connection.
I tried using it by it self to the X8R receiver (X-Series S.Port connection) and the data being reported most of the time is wrong
with very slow to reporting updated data, even when the data happens to be close to being correct.

You may want to look at making your own open-X-GPS sensor, which I understand dose work very well.

Mike.
Thanks, Mike!

I have some questions...

1) With this "source code" is it possible to see the DISTANCE value with a GPS (V2) S.Port?
2) My setup is described in the initial post ... Do I need other hardware to install that "source code" works? (I do not have a HUB. I have a FVAS-02H Variometer to use as a "bridge")

And the most important question of all ...
3) How do you install your source code ...? (Pretend I'm a 10 year old boy who translates everything with the google translator haha),

The source code is installed in my Taranis Plus (I use opentx 2.1.9)? Or ... is it installed in the D8R XP Receiver? ... or is it installed in the FVAS-02H? or...
Excuse my absolute ignorance ...

Any complacent explanation ...
Many thanks to the others for their guidance!

This firmware runs on an Arduino Mini, reads SPort sensors and sends 'hub' telemetry data out.
The D4 signal of the Arduino connects to the SPort data and the D5 signal connects to the D8R-XP serial data input.

Only sensor data that is supported by the hub protocol is passed on.
