I still have my 2013 Taranis (one of the first A Series TXs) in use.
Have upgraded it to the OpenTX 2.1.8 withouth problems.
And I'm very satisfied in the Tx and the OpenTX.
So I'd say of course it's worth upgrading (flashing).
On principle flashing an older Taranis version is similar to the Taranis Plus.
How hard? hhmm...
It depends on the recent firmware you have.
Slightly different "methods" needed for flashing from factory FW, OpenTX pre-2.0.xx, 2.0.xx and 2.1.xx FWs.
You may need the OpenTX Companion 2.0.xx too.
Some learning curve can be expected though.
