RS-232 GPS to D8R II Plus

Post by Raythegreat »

Hi,

Can I connect a GPS with RS-232 output to the D8R II Plus RS-232 port and get the GPS values to the Taranis V2.1.9?
Can this configuration work? I guess it has to be the NMEA standard?

Any suggestions on GPS device to buy?

Thanks
Ray

No. On D series you were supposed to use the FrSky GPS sensor (that does put out NMEA, albeit at TTL levels) but that had to connect to the telemetry hub that converted the data before going to the receiver.

With a Ublox N32+ GPS and an arduino pro mini or arduino nano you can build yourself a perfect working and small GPS for D-Series protocol.

Here is the wiring and if you want to build one yourself, you will get help there.
