Taranis with External Spectrum Module

Post by rcgyuk »

Hi,

This is a second hand question from a friend who almost bought a taranis, but was put off because he has been led to believe that there are certain spectrum receivers you can't bind to no matter what external module you put in the Taranis. He said something about not being able to bind to the telemetry side of the RX.

I 'm not a spectrum user, so I don't understand the question, but can anyone shed any light for me?

Thanks

Robert

There are no "ready for use" telemetry-capable Spektrum-compatible modules for any radio, so if you want that you're forced to use a Spektrum radio (or go the DIY route with currently only a select few radios from Walkera Devo range).

And yeah the various options to get Spektrum compatibility all have some limitations or defects. Using the Taranis for controlling Spektrum gear makes little sense beyond the occasional little BnF like I do, but anything more serious e.g. where telemetry is useful would deserve getting an FrSky RX.

There is an Orange DSMX module that is telemetry capable I guess.. And Ersky9x supports DSM telemtry.
Not sure if this module is only for the 9XR-PRO radio though..

It is only for the 9XR-Pro indeed (unless you hack it to install an antenna), but more importantly it has never been in stock after the first batch about a year ago, so at this point we can probably consider it will never actually be available again...

I think if you really don't need spektrum for the BNF stuff, you should go with frsky.

I never looked very closely at Spektrum telemetry, but AFAIK it's quite limited, and also short range. Might have changed since I last looked at it though.
