Sorry to hear that, and glad there wasn't too much damage.

Is the plane powered by a gas engine?
If so, it might be RF interference from the ignition, which in severe cases can cause the Rx to go to failsafe.

Care to share some info/pics of your setup?

Pablo,. You got it.
I was able to reproduce the problem just now.
Newprop (ouch) charged batteries. Ground range check was excellent. 90. DB at 10 ft. 80db at 100 ft. The rssi never dropped below 75.
I set the failsafe to idle and full up elevator so I could tell visually if signal was lost.
As soon as the engine started the receiver went to failsafe. Checking telemetry of rssi showed 0. No control of anything, which makes sense.
Killing the engine did not return control. Rssi remained at zero.
Switching RX off then on returned control.
I broke the original spark plug and replaced it with a non. Resistor plug.
I figured with 2.4G and spread spectrum asst, didn't need to sorry about electrical noise.
WRONG.

Resistor plugs are on the way.
Also CH ignitions is sending me a plug shield.

Hope this helps others.

One thing that is worrying me is that the receiver didn't regain control when the engine stopped.. I would like to understand why..

Could there maybe a problem with the receiver ?
Vibration and/or heating up of a bad solder joints or a circuit component, maybe ?

Also, did have with an internal XJT on a Taranis-x9d that would randomly break bind when flying.
The fix was to replace the back board where this faulty internal XJT is located.
I use an external XJT for all the flying controls which dose give me better RSSI reporting too.

GoGoMan12,

I'm glad this helped!

In addition to taking care of having a "clean" ignition, I'd recommend you to locate the receiver as far away from the ignition as possible.

There was a bug in X-series receivers that lead to this lock-out (it never recovers after failsafe).

FrSky issued a firmware fix on March.

This was discussed at length in https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthr ... x-lock-out

Cheers!

Update.
I installed new resistor plugs and started engine. No problems.
I also installed a metal CH ignition plug shield.
Made 3 flights without a glitch.
Problem solved.
I plan on updating the x8r anyway.
