Am i heading to hell

Post by imk »

Hello,
Some am fairly new to RC (Powered Gliders).
Started off with a Futaba T7CP that i converted to 2.4ghz with the FrSky DHT 8CH DIY Tx Module and a couple of V8R7-II rx units.
Got me models airborne and after few crashes and some gorilla glue am doing pretty well these days.

So i went out a bought a Taranis X9D-Plus, i asked the guy in shop if it would work with the V8R7-II and i was told that he would have to flash it to work in D8 mode. Which after some reading I find is the international version of open Tx.
Point of writing this note is I have purchased/acquired the following Rx unit:
EU LBT RX8R, X8R, G-RX8 which seem to bench bind and do in house range check ok
plus Four V8R7-II and one V8R4-II which i believe are international versions.
One of the V8R7-II i have flown at what i think is close to full range with the X9D (2m glider almost out of sight).

My question is am i on the road to hell with a mix of EU LBT and international Rx units working to a international X9D-Plus?
Many thanks imk

Way to hell:
Technically: No
Legally outside EU: No
Legally inside EU: Yes, using D8 with the V8R7-II (causing damage with it and get caught)
Legally inside EU: No, using D16 EU LBT

If you have caused some damage, it is definitely recommendable, that the investigative authorities will find a D16 EU LBT RX in the debris :D

Also better to use the X series receivers which you will then have Telemetry data.
The V-series receivers do not send telemetry information back to the transmitter.

Carbo many thanks for the reply,
I guess my next question is, is there a D16 Firmware update for these V8R7-II and would i then be legal if i re-flashed my X9D back to UK LBT.
Many thanks imk

Every TX sold in EU 2015 and later has to "listen before talk" if it is used in EU. V8R7-II RX only work in D8 mode. D8 is not able to "listen before talk". Nevertheless many criminals and lawbreakers use D8 and are alltogether heading to hell :D

But a 2013/14 Taranis is allowed to use D16 FCC and D8   8-)

Carbo,
So can you clarify LBT please?
Does the Tx Unit LBT before it sends commands to the Rx unit
Or does the Rx Unit LBT before it sends telemetry to the Tx unit
Or do they both do LBT and if so LBT would not apply to the V8R7-II as it does not send telemetry.

However, the FrSky DJT module, that only does D8 mode is still available for purchase and use in the EU!

The Tx does the LBT, the Rx responds on the same channel, only if it "hears" from the Tx, I'm not sure if the Rx then listens, or assumes it is OK to transmitt as the Tx just did!

I believe all older (Pre EU afflictions) and new D and V series are EU lawful.
