Bin files in Taranis (bootloader startup)

Post by Raythegreat »

Hi,

Question:
When I power ON the Taranis in the bootloader mode (rudder & ailerons trims pushed in the middle and power ON) and connect the USB to a PC, I see two windows popping out, the SD card drive and another drive with two .bin files in it.
What are these two bin files and what do they serve for? They are pretty old (date created).

Thanks

Those are the key files on the transmitter. DON'T TOUCH THEM.

One is the operating system (firmware) and the other is the storage file where models are created.

Thank you Daedalus66

This is what I thought for the OS but I don't understand the storage file you are mentioning. I guess the OS is something like Linux or close?
If the second file is the storage for models, how come the date never changes?

The date is that of the original creation of the file. It is not changed when the file is written to, which of course happens every time any setting is changed.

The dates don't change because they are fake files that actually directly map to the microcontroller's flash and to the data EEPROM.
You should never touch them manually, but use the functions provided in companion to read/wite settings and firmware.

Got it.
I had no intention of touching something I don't know about.

Thanks guys.
