LCD back light turn off

Post by eberris »

I understand that the HobbyKing LED back light stays on as long as your TX is turned on. How does the ER9X deal with this.

Is there a feature in the program that allows you to have the display turn off after a period of on time?

If this feature is not available in the software, can I interupt power to the back light panel inserting a toggle switch? If yes, is it just a matter of cutting the red lead that comes from the back light panel and placing a switch in its' path?

I think I'd like to just install a toggle switch to control the on off function of the backlight panel. Where would I insert the toggle switch? I'm guessing if I cut the red wire and place the switch between the two ends of the red wire that would work? Do I have that right?

The HK BL only draws 15 ma/hr so depending on your battery size and flying time you may not need a switch to turn it off?
I think the total current draw of the 9x with backlight is 140ma so at 10v if you use a 1500ma life 9.9v battery that's a lot of flying time with it on.
Just commenting. A switch can't hurt but it's one more switch to flip.

Thanks for that info Showmaster, I have the HK Backlight installed and have been meaning to install a switch, but probably won't worry about it now if it's only 15mA.

Thanks for all the help. I agree that a toggle switch to turn off the backlight is probably more trouble than it is worth. Ed

Beating the dead horse . . . for electric fliers who do not need throttle trim, could that switch be used to toggle the backlight on and off?

All the time.(just because you train the esc what your throtle limits are, doesn't mean it's perfect)
You're talking the trim switch, beside the throttle. Clickkitty clickitty

Throttle kill switch also. I use all the switches, and can't wait for the extra ones wo be programmed in for the ersky board. :D

Yup, never touch it. I actually never set my ESCs, or if I do I leave some margin so they turn on only at about 20% stick and get to full power at about 80%.

Well, probably not perfect, but you only need to correct once, with limits, not with trims :)

Throttle kill of course, most important one on an electric model.
