Taranis X9E charging issues

Post by Pax1601 »

Hello everyone,

I have some issues charging the original NiMh battery in my Taranis X9E with the original charging system. Basically, when I connect the barrel plug of the wall adapter, the LED does not come on in any way and the battery does not charge. The battery is about at half capacity so it is not a "cut-off" issue due to already full battery.

I tested the wall adapter and it outputs 18.3V so that should be ok. I tested the leads that go from the charging socket to the circuit board and I still get 18.3V. I tested what appears to be a surface mounted fuse on the board surface (the only side I can access by removing the back panel of the radio) and I get good continuity. I get a very low voltage (0.4V) at the LED and around 2V at the charging circuit output (with the battery removed).

Do you have any suggestions? I would really like not to take the whole radio apart because I am afraid to damage something in the process. Is there anything else I can test to see if the charging circuit is toast? In the meantime I will charge the battery externally, but I like the fact of not taking the back plate apart each time I need to charge it.

Thank you very much!

Nope that's the normal supplied adapter voltage.
