After booting the tx on the second line there are references to Exp (got that sorted) and V Off, whats that refer to? Looked through manual quickly but couldn't find it!

I believe you mean on the main screen?
If you are using Er9x or Ersky9x, please go to www.er9x.com and download the Er9x manual. Then go to the chapter called "Main screens"
Exp is the trim increment setting. It means exponential.
V is part of the radio voltage Like 9.7V. It means Volts
OFF means that the timer trigger is set to OFF, so timer is disabled
