Taranis Internal XJT Update Failure

Post by Quintino »

I do have a FrSky Taranis X9D Plus radio that has an internal XJT transmitter and I have tried to update to version 170317 after updated radio's firmware and bootloader to 2.2.0.
I have download the XJT 170317 firmware from https://www.frsky-rc.com/wp-content/upl ... 170317.zip and extracted the file XJT_NONEU_V20_build170317.hex.frk to the FIRMWARE folder on the radios SD Card. Then Flash Internal Module. I first saw a bar going from left to right and then an error (don't remember which). Then I have tried again and now I always get the Firmware update error Module not responding [EXIT] message and I no longer have link with the receiver.

I believed I have the US version since it came with the US power charger, so I have tried the NONEU version of the firmware. I also renamed the firmware file name from XJT_NONEU_V20_build170317.hex.frk to XJT_NONEU_V20_build170317.frk

After this I have tried the EU version and the firmware version before this one, 151223, with no luck.

Is there a way to reprogram the internal XJT module? If I use another Taranis, connect it to this one and Flash External Module can it work, or am I doomed to replace the back PCB of my Taranis?

I had the same problem with 2 rx's. They are bricked. Now I have problems with a corrupt bootloader of the X9D. I also filed a bugreport but I was rebuffed. I should ask at a forum, use a dua file and replace my sdcard    I'm new to drones, the X9D. I wish to know how to debug.

For the sdcard I took a 32 GB which it refuses to read.

I believe the 2.1+ firmware has a bug with mounting, reading the sdcard. Or hardware problems.

May have a bad SD card, maybe try a different SD card.
SD card must be formatted Fat 32 and not over 32 GB size.
Some more info here: (https://github.com/opentx/opentx/wiki/T ... ia-sd-card).

Looks like FrSky has updated there web-sight, Taranis X9D Plus (XJT) firmwares here: (https://www.frsky-rc.com/taranis-x9d-plus-2/).

Other SD card info: (viewtopic.php?f=94&t=10246&p=129112&hil ... GB#p129072).

If you were to try "erSky9x on Taranis" find here (http://www.er9x.com/) setup the SD card info here: (viewtopic.php?f=35&t=9034#p116984).
Er9x on 9x radio, with Smartieparts Programmer and TelemetrEZ Board.
ErSky9x on Taranis, Sky9x, 9Xtreme radios.

If the bootloader is version 2.1.6 from FrSky it might have a bug when accessing the card through USB, so you want to update that (put the file on the card using another reader).

Well, it was indeed 2.1.6 when I try to update, but now it is on 2.2.0 and I still can't install any version on the internal module. The problem is how can I recover the internal module after failing the update? I will try using a friend Taranis and program an external module, being the external module my internal module...

You can try that, if it doesn't work it's replacement time. See with your dealer about warranty.

Well, I was finally able to try to program the internal module by using an FTDI, with an inverted RXD and TXD and a diode from TX to RX, unfortunately the frisky update sport is unable to find a module to program...
So I suppose there is no other way then replace the backboard, right?
