No signal with Betaflight F3/X4R-SB

Post by Delios »

Hello everyone,

I'm currently stuck with my build and by now I've almost given up, maybe some of you can give me a new idea.
I have the Betaflight F3 flight controller and the X4R-SB receiver. The problem I'm having is that in the betaflight configurator program, when I go to the receiver tab I can move my sticks around but nothing will happen. I'm using the Taranis Q X7 transmitter. Here is what I did:
  • Flashed my internal transmitter module and receiver to the latest EU version.
  • I soldered the white signal wire from the X4R-SB to the sbus port.
  • Soldered the red and black wire to the grnd and 5v/3v ports next to it.
  • Made sure sure the rx gets 5v supplied.
  • Soldered the yellow smartport wire to the tx port on UART 1.
  • Supplied power and paired the transmitter/receiver (no problem)
  • Connected to Betaflight configurator, made sure of the following settings:
    • Under ports tab: UART2 set to Serial RX, UART1 set to smartport.
    • Under configuration tab: Set Receiver to Serial-based receiver and provider to SBUS. Also made sure the Telemetry option is checked.
    • Under receover tab: Made sure the channel map is set to TAER1234
  • With everything powered on: Try to move sticks on the transmitter, see that nothing happens in the configurator.
I'm at a complete loss. The light on my X4R-SB is flashing green so it is properly bound to my transmitter. I can also read out telemetry data on my transmitter just fine, but moving the sticks around does nothing in the configurator. Can anyone give me insight on what to do next?

Is your SBus connection the white cable in the 4 pin JST connector? This is analog in (battery voltage). SBus is available on servo connector #4. Connect the SB pin there to UART2 RX.
You need also to invert telemetry signal in cli with "set telemetry inversion = on".

You see your channels on the TX moving in the channel monitor (3 x PAGE)?

The white wire is not sbus? Well I guess that explains a lot...
So should I just de-pin the x4r-sb and wire onto the sb port then?

If you do not want the pins, yes. But be carefull and do not to damage the pcb. Best way is to cut them and desolder the single pins.
