mico sd card no longer recognized

Post by litse23 »

New problem arises.
Preparing to flash new firmware to the micro sd card in my 9xrPro transmitter I removved the card sometimes(and put it back ect.).
Then I put it in a sd card holder to be able to connect it directly to my PC.
The problem now arises that the car is no longer recognized(also not when mounted in the transmitter).

How to solve this, there is no sign the card is damaged ??
Eventually; what steps to follow to make a new one ??

It looks like your SD Card might be damaged. You probably need to buy a new one.
Then you will need to copy the voice files to the new card.

Not an easy exercise to order a new prepared sd card!

I wonder if I cannot make it by myself with the use of the programs Eepskye or/and Sam-Ba ?

Perhaps can I ash on the forum for someone to make a copy for me ??

Just buy a Micro SD Card. it doesn't have to have big memory. 4Gb is ok, but don't buy smaller. More than 8Gb is a waste for this application anyway. Then come back here for us to help you with copying the needed files to the card :)

Just head over to http://open-txu.org and you will find all sorts of downloads for the MicroSD card, including improved / updated sound files.

I also had a bad SD card ... replaced it with an 8 Gb for a few dollars. Not a problem since.

That is for openTX. I believe he has ersky9x installed on his radio, so those files WILL NOT WORK.

When he buys a card I (or someone else) will show how to get the correct files and put them on the card.

Hmmm, the reason I said 4Gb minimum is not because of the size of the memory itself. it is because of the cluster size. Bigger cards, more than 2Gb I think, can have a cluster size of 32Kb. Download the SD Card formatter for your operating system from the link below (it's free), install it, and then format your 2GB card. DO NOT use windows to format your cards.

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

Then come back here so we can get the files you need on the card, and copy them.. let's do this in small steps. Sometimes is better than giving you all the information at once. Less confusing :)

Please just read my last post again.. Try it first with your 2Gb card.. I think 2Gb might be able to have already a 32Kb cluster, but I'm not sure.. I think your 2Gb will work OK.

Ok, I'm assuming you want to update your radio's firmware which is really recommended.
Install the card on your radio. You could copy the files to the SD Card with the card in the computer, but I will describe how to do it using the radio, so you learn how to do it.

As I said, install the card in the radio.

1 - Turn the radio ON while holding both horizontal trims towards the center of the radio to start it in bootloader mode.

2 – Connect the USB cable between both radio and computer. The radio will display “Connecting..”, and will keep displaying the same even after it is connected. Two drives will appear on your computer. One is the SD Card, and the other, called “ERSKY_9X”, is a drive that contains a copy of the firmware installed in the radio, and another copy of the eeprom. LEAVE THIS ONE ALONE, you need only the SD Card drive.

3 – Open the SD Card drive on your computer and create a folder with the name “firmware”

4 – Go to http://www.er9x.com and download the latest released version of Ersky9x for the 9XR-PRO and save it to your computer. It must be this one, "ersky9x for 9XR-PRO". Other files won't work.

5 – The file you've downloaded comes inside a zip file. Extract it to the “firmware” folder you've just created on the card. Then change it's name with something more descriptive, like a date or version number for example.

6 – Eject the drives from the computer, and disconnect the USB cable. Your radio's screen will now show the file you just copied to the card.

7 – To install the firmware just highlight the file and press MENU LONG. Confirm the installation by pressing MENU LONG again.

8 – Wait until the firmware finishes installing, Then press EXIT LONG a couple of times to go back to the same screen you were before. Turn your radio OFF.

Installing the voice pack for ErSky9x:

9 – Please follow the link.

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7715

10 – Scroll down the page and download the voice pack with the file name “Voice Pack for Ersky9x r218 and above_v1.0.zip”. Save it to your computer.

11 – repeat steps 1 and 2 above to start your radio in bootloader mode and connect it to the computer.

12 – Now unzip (extract) the contents of the zip file you've just downloaded to the root directory of the SD Card. It should create a folder called “voice” on your card, alongside with the existing “firmware” folder. This voice folder has 3 more folders inside.

System – System files, do not mess with them.
User – Here you can add your own voice files, and access them from the "Voice Alarms” menu
modelNames – Here you put the Voice files for your model names. The radio will speak the name of the model when that model is loaded.

13 – That's it, eject the drives from the computer, and disconnect the USB cable. Reboot your radio, you should hear the welcome message when you turn your radio ON and clear all the error messages, if there is any.

I hope this helps. Have fun :) and good luck ;) :D

Thanks to your very good step to step instuctions I succeeded to put all the firmware on the card.
However I did it in two steps. After flashing the firmware(not a Zipfile) I had a short stop .
After a new start up with the USB cable still in the receiver, in boot mode, and my computer, the computer did not recognize the card.
So i decided to put the card directly into the computer and to copy the voice map into the firmware folder.
Now when I put the card back in the receiver and connect to the computer the card again is not recognized.
On transmitterscreen flashes "SD CARD OFF"
In transmitter menu I see ËPROM DISABLED"

Perhaps I have to do things all over again, in one action, after formatting the card ?

Plsase format it again, and do it exactly as I posted above.

Did you eject the drives before disconnecting the radio from the computer?

Because of a 'feature' of the way MAC computers work, there is an option in the bootloader to disable the SD card so A MAC doesn't take ages writing to it. This option is toggled by the trainer switch. If you have SD CARD OFF flashing, simply pull the trainer switch to on and release it. The SD card should then be available. If this doesn't work, it may be you have a problem with the trainer switch itself.

My computer is a Windows computer. I know nothing of a trainer switch .Do I first have to program that switch?(assign).
The firware and the soundfiles are written to the card.
I only was able to flash the firmware after disconnecting the USB cable from the computer. Then afther connecting to the computer the card was recognized.
Disconnecting and connecting after that, the card was not recognized any more ??
Futher on the menu: Eprom; DISABLED and Firmware; DISABLED (However on a first start up I saw firmware was from 2016 !)

Please, follow steps 1 and 2 of my other post above. Can you see the 2 drives on the PC? Only one? None?

Which menu is reporting: Eprom; DISABLED and Firmware; DISABLED (do you mean "Hardware"?).
The trainer switch is the spring loaded switch on the top right of the radio. If "SD CARD OFF" is flashing, simply pull this switch once and release it. The "SD CARD OFF" message should disappear.

The EEPROM and Hardware menus are disabled by default to prevent accidental changes to the radio. To enable them, just power the radio on while holding the left horizontal trim switch to the left until the "splash" screen appears.

Joao ; When I follow your steps 1 and 2, I see NO drive(s) on my computer. (Card not recognized).
When I put the card directly into the computer the card is recognized.

Still very much room on the card, only 15,1 Mb used ??
Further it seems to me that the new firmware is properly installed.
