Adding sound files

Post by pmshop »

Sorry if I'm in the wrong place with this but I have installed the 9x Extreme Smartie Parts upgrade.
I have figured out a lot of the functions including diving into the sounds.

I even overwrote a welcome to customize...awesome.

So, I want my controller to respond to flipping the "ele" switch with Camera On /Camera Off from "Amber".
I got it to work with Lights On /Lights Off.
However, when I drop the properly edited for bitrate & sampled files into the Voice folder, they do not show up in the file list.

Am I missing something?

The files must be 8 characters long, excluding the files extension.
The files must be 16Khz 16 bit.
<those files must be inside the "user" folder.

Check, Check and my apologies, it is indeed in the user folder.

I see the file before and the file after but not what I am adding.

Make sure they are .wav files and not other file type like mp3. If you zip them and post them here we can also try to play them, and maybe find out what is happening.

Re: Adding sound files

Well, they are not appearing in the list to be selected, but if I use eePeskye and manually program the file, it plays!

Go figure :D

While you are here, could you link me to a good tutorial on how to use the controller as a media player?
I saw somewhere that they were doing that but were only showing playback troubles.
They did not show how to do it.

Thanks!
Great project y'all have here!

Note that the file list on the radio is not sorted, so your file(s) may well appear in a different place (last?) in the list to that you see on your PC.

See this post: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=40&start=2610#p115779, for how to use the background music feature.

I didn't know we could select the voice files on the PC :o I don't see any option for listing the files/folders in eepskye.

Thanks

Last tab after you read the memory and select the model.
Select your audio alarm and you can set everything in there.

Not a selecting option.
It is like the "type in the file name" option on the controller instead of selecting.

Also, just checked Mike and sure enough...the added file name is at the end!

And thanks for the link Mike - as I said, great project here!

I meant if you are looking at the folder directory while on the PC using the bootloader, not while using eepskye.

Ahh, ok Thanks Mike.
If I remember I've read something in the past about selecting the voice files from eepskye, but i didn't know if you already had implemented something like this, hence I asked. I did find strange you implementing it and I didn't know :) I normally have the latest installed.. ;)

STUCK!
Firmware still current:
Ver: V.3531-Mike
Date: 08.01.2016
Time: 11:16:20
Svn: ersky9x-r218
Mod: 9XT

I am trying to load the music firmware (r219t) and it will not.
It looks like it is loading (jumpy progress bar in eePeSkye) but same version is displayed after every attempt.
I have followed the tutorial to the letter with same results.
So I have no idea how I got r218 got on there.

Something I noted playing around...there is that way how to load from the Tx.
I followed that and the point where it was said "The display will show you the file you copied..."
Mine continued to show "connecting"

**UPDATE**
Oh never mind!
I just need to play, sleep, play, sleep when it comes to this setup.
After my last statement, went and did some other stuff.
Came back, turned on the controller and there was the file name to upgrade.

I can play music now but only through the selector.
Not sure what switches I want set up.
Recommendations anyone?

Go to one of the models, then Model Setup/Music.
There you can configure switches to control the player.
By the way, the radio saying connecting while connected to the PC is normal. When you disconnect the cable it will then show the firmware files you have on your SD Card.

I actually have to turn the transmitter off and back on to get the file name to come up after disconnecting (9xExtreme - SmartieParts).

I have a few switches set but awkward.
They have to be 'off' to start the controller but then they have to be 'on' before I can start the music.

Here you go.

And, you can tell me how bad I screwed up? :)

I cannot upload firmware through eePeSky.

Sorry to be a noob on this type/ style of forum.
I am used to RCGroups.
How do I upload a file here?
I am .zip ed on this side ready to go.

**Update**
Oh heck.... did it again.
I am just working too fast.
Per your request, I got the file and when I disconnected it showed the display that would show a .bin file if I had one in there :D

The starting state of all the switches is set for each model. Go to the "Model Setup" menus and select "General". On the last 'page' you will see a line with the names of all the switches. Those that should be ON for this model are highlighted. To change the setting use UP and DOWN to get a box round all the switch names, then put the switches where you want them and press MENU LONG to store the settings.

In Music, you have the switches selected as !AIL, !RUD and !THR. That means they are reversed and are ON when they are actually OFF.
Please select AIL, RUD and THR

Mike, I have just noticed that the music switch selection is still not in eepskye? Is that correct?
I had to load his models on my radio as I couldn't find the setting in eepskye..

Thanks

Perhaps I haven't posted a test version of eepskye yet, I have the music switches on the bottom of the "Switches" tab.

Mike, yes you do.. I saw them now.. Sorry.
But I guess this proves that the logical switches tab might not be a very good place for them ;) No one will look for them there, it doesn't make sense :D
Maybe the Model setup tab is a better place?
Is it difficult to add tabs in eepskye to match the model setup on the radio?

eepskye and eepe still reflect the old menu system (roughly) :(

Thanks

I was trying to avoid having so many tabs that some end up not being visible and needing to be scrolled to access them.

In my opinion it is better to have a little scroll bar and scroll through some well organized tabs that match the menus in the firmware.
At the moment, specially in the general setup tabs, there is loads of information on top of each other, that belong to different menus in the radio. That makes things difficult to find..

Just my 2 cents

I don't agree. There are 15 tabs on eepskye and 15 options on the radio. Most of these actually match.
On eepskye the SETUP tab has the timers and general from the radio, and the music switches are on the switches tab. Eepskye then has two tabs not on the radio, templates and trims.

Do we really need a "Trims" menu? I never used it and I'm not sure it has any relevance as we never trim the model while program it in eepskye?
Just trying it now with the eepskye simulator, if I move the trim on the trims menu, it does change the trim in the simulator, but if I move the trim in the simulator, it does not change the value in the trim menu..

Anyway, if you really wanted to keep all the tabs with their own menus (timers on their own, etc) plus some others (Music, etc), and all organized and very user friendly, here is a possible solution ;) Please see the attached picture :)

The version of QtCreator I'm using doesn't support "stacked" tabs so I can't do that.

Qt creator is free? What would be the problem with updating it if the new versions would support stacked tabs? Would it break compatibility with something?
That would save loads of space and still leave some space for future options/menus, keeping all organized and less overwhelming, specially for new users..

Thanks

I don't believe any existing version does.

Also, upgrading QT to a new major version is not straightforward and would need changes all throughout the program.
