OpenTx Heli functionality

In the Heli Tab there's the opportunity to insert a number of settings, sources and weights for longitudinal and lateral cyclic and collective pitch. I've not set up a heli before and am trying to get an Assault Reaper operational. Setting values in this heli screen doesn't seem to me to have any impact on outputs, where/how is this data used? Clearly I'm missing some fundamental step so any help appreciated.
