How to flash a 9XR-Pro with opentx ?

Post by Helle »

Hy,

since today, I have 9XR-Pro too.
Have tested it, and yes its a simply 9XR, but with a very very fine PCB (that's the best of it !!)

Some errors at the German Menue UI
so back to english, its ok

Now I want to flash it with openTx V2.03
How to do it in detail, I don' t know it

I use companion V2.03 and can make a Profile for 9XR-Pro

And then?
What about a bootloader?
Or first direct flashing and how?
Structur of the SD-card?

read/write the firmeware?
read/write the modells?

The 9XR-PRO comes with the bootloader already installed.
Any help with the German translations is welcome. Some additions are currently hard coded in English due to lack of time and ability to translate.

Hy Mike,

where to find the code for 9XR-Pro ?

At some position with less space
its somtime better so take the short english label
or find a better german technical term

I had same problem with Translation of opentx for Th9, 9XR,Taranis and Companion

You download the firmware for the 9xr-pro from companion and you flash it! 2 methods, either sam-ba, either the bootloader (starting your radio with the 2 trims pressed)

Set radio profile to 9XR Pro in companion
Turn off the radio
Turn it on while holding both horizontal trims inwards, you should ahve the bootloader screen on the radio
Connect USB cable, you should see 2 drives appear in "My computer"
Use the Write Firmware to Radio command in companion.

Sorry for jumping in, but I have exactly the same issue with my brand new 9XR-Pro. I use a Taranis also which works fine with OpenTX 2.0.17.
I created a new radio profile in OpenTx Companion and downloaded the firmware for 9XR-Pro. As I couldn't connect the radio to OpenTx to upload the firmware, I copied the new FW to the SD card and upgraded it via the bootloader, but no matter what I try I can not get the 9XR-Pro connected to Companion on my Mac. I am using the 3 finger salute startup as recommended, see the bootloader screen, connect the USB cable, see 'Connecting..' on the 9XR-Pro screen, but it sits there indefinitely, never connecting and SD card folders never appear in finder on the mac. I have tried 2 different USB cables which both work on the Taranis. Boot Loader is v1.1 - is this the latest? If not where to get better/suggested bootloader?

Thanks, Paul

Guys, I have found a solution to my issue and hoping it can help those who are also having similar issues connecting their 9XR Pro radio to windows/mac - the underlying issue in my case was that even though I was following the correct procedure for connection (I.e. horizontal trims clicked inwards during power up to access the bootloader, then connect the USB cable between the radio and PC, and try connectivity from Companion), and even though the radio display (upon USB connection) changed to show 'Connecting..', I was not getting the SD card drives appear in windows or Mac, and Companion was not allowing any connection to the radio. The fix for me was to push in the USB connector to the radio fully - Even though I had pushed the mini-USB connector, what I thought was all the way home, it didn't appear to be plugged in very far. I then read a post somewhere else which described the same issue, so forcefully pushed against the USB plug, and to my surprise it gave way and allowed me to push past the blockage and went in fully - instantly I heard the Windows chimes reporting that a new USB device had been connected (this was the first time I had heard this). Then the SD card drives appeared in Windows. Tried the same on the Mac and that works fine now too with the USB cable fully pushed in. Just shows you, sometimes its just something simple which foxes us!

So it seems that some of these radios are using USB sockets which aren't that great!

Hope this helps!

Not so much a poor USB connector, but a very good one that locks the plug in place, it actually 'clicks' when you push it home firmly.
I believe this has always been the case.

Extract from: download/file.php?id=8160:

"Now plug the USB cable into the transmitter and the computer. Press the connector firmly into the transmitter connector and make sure it is fully seated."

People that bought the radio with the idea of changing the firmware won't read the original manual and will never know about it..

I never imagined I'd need to read a manual to figure out how to plug in a USB cable ;o)

Cheers for the doc.
