Using telemetry for waypoint navigation

Post by wrenow »

Just curious. Perhaps I missed it, but is there currently a way to use the GPS navigation telemetry do do waypoint navigation or return to home features?

If not, is this under consideration for future development?

If so, is an RSSI limit override being implemented so, if the waypoint is inadvertently about to take you out of range, it will change to the next waypoint or RTH.

Please do not slow polishing up the Taranis implementation for this, if anyone is planning it at all.

Cheers,

Wreno

I think at the moment that is done using a controller board with a GPS system in the model..

And if the model loses the signal it will automatically return to the start point.. You can also activate it in case you can't see the model anymore..
Obviously would not help if your ship sinks

Yes, there are such things as the Ardurover that do this on the model end, just wondering if you could implement it at the TX end (and, at least this way, you could check your log to see where it sent out of radio range and have a starting point for your search if the recovery float does not deploy properly). The RTH on LOS would obviously be out (how could it tell the model how to return when it can't communicate with it?). But semi-autonomous cargo ships would be nice to free up captains to run battleships. Of course, and automated cargo ship would also be fearless and not shy off its path, so it might be easier for the armed escort to cover as well. 8-)

This kind of thing needs to be done by an onboard controller. Sending down telemetry info, processing it on the radio, sending orders back up, waiting for new telemtry feedback is insanely slow (about 2 orders of magnitude slower than an an onboard solution). Not efficient at all.
