mysmartusblight with mac

Post by Koarl »

Hi guys,

I did a lot of research on the internet, but didn´t figure it out how the programmer works. I´m new to this porgramming stuff and so I hope that you can help me. Pleeeeeeaaaaaassssseeeee....

Can anybody tell me if the mysmartusb light works on mac? How? Which software do I need?

Thanks a lot!

It should be supported directly, as stk500-v2
you need to see in system log which serial port was assigned to it

When I go to system log (in german it must be system profiler) I see the Programmer, but which number tells me the port?

Thanks

You will have a device named like /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART appearing when connecting the programmer do a comparison from "ls /dev/tty*" before connecting and after having connected the programmer

The system log is not the system profiler, but the console app.

I'm not a mac expert at all but in linux/unix normally from console you have the dmesg command to display system log.
but as in this case we only need to know the device name a couple of "ls" is sufficient too..

And the console is the terminal app.. dmesg does not work on a mac, you need sudo rights. Strange guys @ apple, rather give me Ubuntu.

I develop and use compnion9x under various distributions of linux (opensuse and fedora) but even if i have that programmer on the 9x i use the cheap usbasp from hk as I have programmers inside my radios.

Anyway that programmer is very easily supported by linux and unless you have other serial adapters the port normally is /dev/ttyUSB0

Hey Guys,

I couldn´t find the programmer for a couple of days, lost it somewhere. I turned over the whole house. But yesterday it luckily appeared again.

When I go to console and then system log and plug in the programmer I get this message:
Jul 6 13:44:54 localhost com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.aslmanager): Throttling respawn: Will start in 3 seconds

What does it mean?

Thanks

Allright, I typed in the command before and after connecting the programmer and got the following messages:

Before:
Last login: Sat Jul 7 12:05:35 on ttys000
localhost:~ MyName$ ls /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART
ls: /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART: No such file or directory

After connecting:
localhost:~ MyName$ ls /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART
/dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART
localhost:~ MyName$

And now??

Thanks

Now put /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART as the port parameter of the programmer configuration dialog, use stk500-v2 as programmer and then you are ready to go...

burn -> configure
leave port empty and write in extra arguments: -P /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART

please note capital letter P

if you have problems try to add also -b 19200

so that extra-arguments looks like : -P /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART -b 19200

It seems to work, but now I got the message, that I should doublecheck the connections. I will redo my solderings with some single strand wire. The networkcable I used appears to be crappy cause it seems that the copper core breaks easily. I will do it next weekend. I will inform you when it works.

Thanks meanwhile!!

I have a problem again and I´d like to ask you for help.

A smartieparts board is an usbasp. So chooe programmer type usbasp, not stk500v2. Port should be either nothing or usb.

Hello Kilrah and thanks for your answer,

Its a mysmart usb light, no smartieparts board. I used the same settings as for my macbook (described in the earlier posts) Just to let you know.
But I'll try your advice as soon as I meet my little brother.

Thanks

It looks to me as though the eepe command is missing a -P in front of /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART.

Where in the eepe config did you enter /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART?

Hi Mike,

Could be in deed! I wrote it in extra arguments.
But don't you think the system log file is "suspicious"? Like the message:" unable to talk to lsbox"

Alright. I found the time to try it again:
In system log I get the message when I plug the programmer in:
Jul 6 22:59:57 User-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: com_silabs_driver_CP210xVCPDriver64(0xffffff8026bd7000)::start - Sucessfully loaded the driver
Jul 6 23:00:07 User-MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: com_silabs_driver_CP210xVCPDriver64::setPowerState(0xffffff8026bd7000, 0 -> 1) timed out after 10149 ms

When I try to read the Eeprom with companion I get the following message:

=================================================================================
Started AVRDUDE
/usr/local/bin/avrdude -c stk500v2 -p m64 -P /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART -U flash:r:/Users/Matthaeus/Documents/asdf.bin:r
=================================================================================
avrdude: stk500_2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500_2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout

Any idea?

thanks
