Flashing er9x over ersky9x

Post by Rad »

Hi everyone!

Long story short: I had a radio with a 9xtreme and I was using ersky on that radio. Now I have the 9xtreme board in other radio and I would like to flash the radio with er9x using a smartieparts programer (I think is the rev 2.4)

But for some reason it seems I can not do it. I am trying to flash it with eepe and the error I get is this:

Arrancando AVRDUDE
C:/Program Files (x86)/eePe/avrdude.exe -c usbasp -p m64 -U eeprom:r:C:/Users/rad_d/AppData/Local/Temp/eebackup.hex:i
=================================================================================

avrdude.exe: error: programm enable: target doesn't answer. 1
avrdude.exe: initialization failed, rc=-1
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.

avrdude.exe done. Thank you.

What can I do? Is it possible to use the 9xtreme to flash the stock firmware in the radio, and then install 9x with the smartieparts programmer?

Thanks!

Also I checked the connection and I cleaned the pads.

and in config:
Programmer: usbasp
mcu m64
port: Nothing.

Aaaaand I am using the same usb wire that I use for the other radio with the 9xtreme, and works.

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to flash er9x.
If the radio has been used with the 9Xtreme, then if you power it on now, it should display "9XTREME" in the middle of the display. Does this happen?

Hi, It happened at the beginning, but not now...

Then I discovered the problem. Remember the post I opened about a non working taranis gimbal? Well, it seems I shorted the small gimbal PCB, so with the gimbal connected, the radio just does not power on. Im an sure thats what fried my 9xtreme....

I removed the gimbal and now indeed the radio says 9xtreme... Now lets see if I remember how to flash the plain er9x...

=================================================================================
Arrancando AVRDUDE

avrdude.exe: Expected signature for ATMEGA64 is 1E 96 02
Double check chip, or use -F to override this check.

avrdude.exe done. Thank you.

=================================================================================
AVRDUDE terminado - codigo de retorno de error 1

EDIT[/b] I put this in config:
Programmer usbasp
Mcu m128
Puerto nothing.

I tried to flash the last test version... And it works and rocks!!!

Now I only need to fix or replace the small PCB in the gimball.

Hope this thread helps somebody.

Did you flash er9x.hex or er9x-128.hex?
With a '128 processor you want er9x-128.

I flashed er9x, but after reading you I flashed the er9x 128.
Vers V1 784 Mike, 16.01.2017 Er9x pr822 Mod FRSKY 128.

Is this the latest version and that I should flash, right?

Ok, now I have everything working except the gimbals. When installing the taranis gimbals I tried to do it as nice and clean as possible, so I tried to desolder the wires and solder the gimbal ones straight to the board... Well, its pretty obvious that it went wrong in one of the gimbals. After soldering, resoldering, desoldering and resoldering again and repeating at least ten times, that part of the PCB is useless so I think the best thing I can do is to cut it away and solder the gimbal wires straight to the pads.

Finally I installed the taranis gimbals in a brand new radio but I took the easy way of just cutting and soldering the wires together... And now I am trying to rescue this other flysky from oblivion.

MikeB, in my taranis gimbals post you posted a diagram of the 9x, but for me it is almost imposible to follow it. Could you please guide me in this valley of shadows of death and tell me where should I solder every wire? I mean from the stock flysky gimbal to the small PCB, keeping in mind I fried where I was supposed to solder them.

So I think, correct me if I am wrong,
Purple: Signal connection for Horizontal Stick (Rudder or Aileron, Mode 2).
Yellow: Signal connection for Vertical Stick (Throttle or Elevator, Mode 2).
Blue: + 5 volts
Red: - Ground

I believe it is a mirror image and may use the same 9x wire colors (Black,Red,White),
But, better to use your multimeter to be sure.

I think it could be ?
9x Black wire may be the: + 5V
9x Red wire may be the: Ground
9x, one White wire goes to Vertical Elevator and the other White wire goes to the Horizontal Aileron.

9x Gimbal wiring_L.jpg
9x Gimbal wiring_Le.jpg
Better to use your multimeter so to know what is what to be sure.

Hey, I tried following your diagram, Bob, and it WORKS!

At the beginning I even did not trie because I saw no track from the connector to anywere, but yeah, the track was at the other side of the board, lol.

So thanks to you, guys, I managed to save one radio from destruction.

Change the title from litlte to BIG.
