Quite an interesting idea. What do others think?
No great problem handling the image, I already have code for reading that from the SD card.

Are the smaller trim indicators large enough, I think they might be.
It may well be time to consider these main screens to 'improve' them.
Currently, in the top half of the display, we have:
The model name in large characters (useful for those who need reading glasses to see the display otherwise).
The battery voltage.
Timer 1.
Timer 1 trigger.
The trim step size.
If the flight mode is not 0, and the current flight mode has a name, then this replaces the trim step size.

The image is likely to take up a quarter of the display.

And where would you put the model name? That is important :)
I think one important change would be using the smaller (and better looking in my opinion) font as in Er9x..

João

EDIT: Also, do we need the trim step size and the Timer trigger displayed on the screen? I personally never look at them.
For The trim step we can see how it reacts when we move the trim. For the trigger, we can check in the timer menu. It is not critical information. If the timer is not working as intended, just go to the menu and check the setting..

I thought the flight mode name is useful, and the Tx battery voltage. The trim step size is less useful.

Yes, I didn't mean those on myt post above.. I said that the TRIM STEP and the TIMER TRIGGER might not be so important.. Of course the tx Batt and the Flight Mode are important, and should be displayed..
TX battery could be of small characters though. I think there isn't just enough space for pictures without losing relevant information, unless you create one screen specifically for Model information..
The same for the music player screen I suggested a few days ago..

I like it the way it is, I volt no change, unless there could be options for different screen displays.

The screen would not change much timer Does not disturb Because in another Screen shows timer 1 timer 2 This is my opinion.
Where is showing time put model name If you want to see the timer and just switch to another screen that shows timer1 timer2 ,
This screen already has on the radio

To show the battery voltage of the radio I would pass it to the screen of timer1 timer2

In my opinion the radio battery has to be in all screens. There is some info that has to be displayed on all screens. For example, model name, radio battery, flight mode, the trims. I believe one timer (timer 1) should also be displayed. This is very important information that people might need when flying a model. The picture of a model would be a great addition if we had a bigger screen. The quality of the graphics is also very low. You won't recognize the model anyway. Even the splash screen that is the size of the complete screen has poor resolution..
Is it really worth to put such a bad resolution picture on the screen removing information that might be needed? Not in my opinion.. That would be making the system worse as far as functionality is concerned.
If changing the looks of something, I then vote for changing the looks of some menus and make them more user friendly. :)
Just my 2 cents..

Specifically, what about the smaller trim indicators?
I just did a calculation and the existing trim indicators are using over 20% of the total screen space. Changing to smaller indicators, something like those shown in the image in the first post, would reduce this to 6%. So we could gain 14% more space for something more useful.
An image may not look too bad, I've attached a spitfire image I'm using for some testing, and a tiger moth I just sorted.
One possibility is to keep what we have (maybe shrink the trim indicators), unless you select an image for display when you get something with the image on it.
With the trims shrunk, and perhaps use the slightly smaller large font (already used for the battery voltage and timer), the display may look less "cluttered" and may be able to show more.

An image would make a little bit of sense if we could take a picture of our own model and use it, as long as there is no loss of important information. But again, if you reduce the size of things like the trims and use a smaller font, you might be able to fit some other information that is more important and useful than a low quality picture.. it is not even a picture, it is a Silhouette.. :)

Can we at least have an option not to use it? and put other items that we find more useful on the screen?

Thanks

I did say keep what we have if you don't specify an image to use.
Below is an actual LCD image I've put together as a test of small trim indicators. You get a solid 'blob' at the centre, and an indication of which side the trim is if it is off centre.
Out of interest I wondered what the model name would look like in bold, but normal size.
The image is read from the SD card.

The main question here is what the trim indicators are like.

Hi All,

I would keep a vertical line (or at least something) to indicate a physical centre of the trim line. Then the actual trim position indicator doesn't have to show the side our trim is off centre. This will allow to estimate HOW FAR it is off centre, which is useful sometimes.

Would that be only on the inputs screen? That would be ok, as that screen should be used only to check the inputs. So maybe it could be left without the important info.

Commercial radios don't also show a picture on every screen.. Normally only on a screen with some model related information.. That would be a complete waste of space on all of the screens..

The image on your screen picture makes at least 30% of the space of the upper display completely useless :) That is a fact.. :D But if this only this screen is used for the picture than I guess it could be ok..
Where are the switches by the way? Or is that already a complete new screen?

Talking about the missing switches on your picture, On that same screen, the TRN switch is not shown (apart from flashing the IDx switch), nor is any of the PB1 to PB4. They would use that space better IMO. :) Also creating space for P5, in case someone uses it..

Could you please implement that for the people that don't load an image, if possible?

It is a completely new screen I'm using to test this out, it may all come to nothing!
So I haven't added everything I could yet.
I'll give the trim indicators some more thought on showing the centre position.
It may well be the image takes up too much space to be a good idea, but worth a look.

Yes, of course Mike.. I think a completely new screen, with model info, without the sticks, switches and the trims.. Like that you could keep the trims with the current size, no need to change them.
You could add date and time (RTC) to the model info screen. This screen wouldn't be used to fly anyway.
Additionally, you could display it for a couple seconds at startup after the splash screen, and after loading a new model, before the last used screen was displayed, as it is now..

Of course, this new screen could also be selected as the one to be shown, the same as any other screen.

mike You could put menu to skill or turn off the shortcuts
Not my opinion, who likes the shortcut leave it on, for those who do not like the shortcut leaves off
The radio would be much more organized

Mike left those there to allow for a quick access to the index menu. I for example never use the left and right press .. I find the popup more intuitive, just like you.. Maybe when there is new functionality, like for example, to access the music player ;) :)
