So as I understand the direction... We can pay for a subscription for firmware compile and burn in c9x or we can compile code for free and install at the command line? Is the plan also to limit model editing in c9x unless we subscribe? This seems reasonable...

The success of the Taranis radio gives us far too much work (private emails, issues, enhancement requests, etc.) and we cannot continue working for free. Last I heard was frsky are gonna give an amount of money to the development team for each taranis plus sold so should mean it's all sorted now and we can stop worrying.

Details are still being worked out but it sounds good. Development continues and most of the above features are already implemented and committed in openTx, but more time is needed to adapt C9X.
A few new features that are added on top of that:
[all]
- Switch warming can be turned on/off individually for each switch, aka "don't cares"
- FAS offset compensation (+/-1.5A)
[ARM boards]
- Store mAh count on power off for those "partial battery" flights
[Taranis]
- Ability to store pot positions that need to be set on model load (like the switch warnings). One can choose which pot(s) to check, and whether positions are set manually or are stored on power off.
- Ability to automatically show model notes on model load (aka display checklist).
- DSM protocol for the DX4/5 mod
- Persistent radio usage timer

That one with storing the pot values would also fit in the 9x with other processors, right?

Well yes and no, it's a bit of a pain as it would need 3 different implementations.
9x needs a different UI because of the screen, then within this you'd need 2 different feature sets as sky9x can use the functinality as is, but with stock auto wouldn't be possible.

Pleased to see these issues seem to be being resolved, but I would still like to some some form of direct payment model from users to the team to augment any funds from FrSky; as far as I am concerned I am getting a Ferrari for free at present, so I have no issue with ponying up a few Euros for an annual C9X subscription (or whatever other model makes the most sense). Keep up the fantastic work!

Will the usb joystick function only enable the TX to be used as a joystick or can a joystick also be plugged in the TX to be used for some channels (i.e. Camera gimbal control)?

TX used as joystick. The radio does not have the hardware needed to power a device.

Yes, but it's not plug and play. And the software support is a whole other thing that is much more complicated than what has been done for using the radio as joystick. Most of today's joysticks don't comply to a standard anymore and require a specific custom driver.
If you feel like coding it, feel free to go ahead

I've read for the last 2 months
all you have posted and (you tube)'d.
I await my Taranis delivery
next week, without you there would be
NO Taranis.
Without you there would be NO sales
of the Taranis, at least I (ordinary man) would
NOT be able to or comprehend or have faith in myself to
conquer a challenge of this magnitude with out your encouragement
and faith in the product and fellow R/C er.

That's wierd it powers my uhf module and fpv glasses just fine. A joystick would require less power.

For OTG the device needs to have the capability to supply power through the USB port to power the OTG device i.e. switch the usb power line between input and output, and there is no circuitry for that. The pin that would be needed to detect cable type and switch USB mode between device and OTG accordingly is also not present.

It is a great feature. I hope we will see support for OpenTX and Turnigy9x or Taranis.

I am running a Taranis X9D Opentx-x9d 2.2.0 (85863358)
I am using a Banggood Multiprotocol Module (stm32).
I am working to add the Corona V1 receivers to the Module.
When I select protocol PPM I see two timing numbers.
The first is the PPM stream cycle time.
What is the second number??
How do I select the proper numbers??
When I select protocol MULT, CUSTOM there are two options 0 0.
The first is the custom protocol number, what is the second number??
Is there some documentation on these protocol options?
The people working on the Multiprotocol Module don't seem to know
some of the details of the opentx side of these protocol setups.

Probably because some are using ersky9x, which uses a text file for the protocol names. This means you can modify it yourself, or download an updated version and so not need to wait fo the firmware to be updated when the module adds a new protocol.

Yes, most of them seem to be using ersky9x.
Opentx is able to read all the Multimodule protocals and display them as options
so I assume someone on the opentx side knows the meaning of the options??

The second number is the ppm delay (the stop time between pulses). The defaults of 22.5ms and 300us should be fine for standard 8 channel frames. If you need a non standard frame I would hope the module vendor would tell you.
For multi. custom the first number is the protocol and the second number is the sub-protocol.
For Corona: per

Sub protocol COR_V1 (number 0) for Corona FSS V1 Receivers -> not fully tested yet, waiting for feedback
Sub protocol COR_V2 (number 1) for Corona DSSS V2 Receivers (CR4D, CR6D and CR8D) -> fully tested and working
I'm a little confused by your asking about ppm and multi custom in the same post. Custom doesn't work with PPM, with ppm you have to select the protocol with the switch on the module (assuming the module has one). To use custom and select the protocol from the transmitter you should be using protocol "multi".
Edit: And just because you see a protocol on the transmitter or can set it in custom doesn't necessarily mean it is in the module. For openTX if you define MULTI_STATUS in _Config.h multi status on the transmitter will show if the module has the protocol or not.
