OpenTX Taranis not connecting to PC and installed a 6 position switch

Post by bob195558 »

Hi,
I have an RC group member's Taranis-x9d radio and it is not connecting to Win7 on my Laptop.
About a year ago it was connecting to my Laptop, but when I tried it today, it will not make the connection.

This Taranis-x9d has on it, version:
VERS: 2.0.13
DATE: 2014-11-20
TIME: 01:06:07
EEPR: 216

And I have on my Laptop: OpenTX companion Version: 2.0.13, Nov 19 2014

I tried to do the Bootloader, holding both Horizon trim switches toward each other when powering up the Taranis-x9d radio,
but it is just booting up normally and not connection to PC.
I then tried with the Taranis-x9d power up and then connecting the USB and nothing happens.
Also tried without powering up Taranis-x9d and connecting the USB and again nothing happens.
I am not remembering how the Taranis-x9d connecting procedure to OpenTX should be done.
This RC group member (owner of this Taranis-x9d) dose not want to upgrade his Taranis-x9d radio firmware.

Any suggestions to how and/or why this is failing to make connection ?

If, with the Taranis powered off, and you then plug in the USB cable, you don't get the "USB device connected tones", then the USB connection is broken somewhere. I assume you have checked the cable on another device, so I would suspect the connections between the USB socket and the back board in the Taranis. These have been known to fail.

Hi Mike,
I kept trying the Hold both Horizon trim switches toward each other when powering up the Taranis and it finally did enter
into the Bootloader menu and now is connected to OpenTX companion Version: 2.0.13, Nov 19 2014 on my Laptop. :D
I tried to get this RC group member to change to erSky9x firmware, but he still dose not want to at this time. ;)
There may be a faulty trim switch as it took about 20 tries before it went into Bootloader menu. :(

I am hoping to be able to add the FrSky 6 position Switch in place of one of the Taranis-x9d pots.
Dose the OpenTX firmware VERS: 2.0.13 / DATE: 2014-11-20 / EEPR: 216 able to upgrade to the FrSky 6 position Switch ? :?:
Looking at it on my Laptop, I do not find where to make the hardware settings changes.

General settings, Calibration, set the type of S1 to MultiPos switch I think.

Hi Mike,
I will check this out (set the type of S1 to MultiPos switch) thanks.

And yes, the right horizon trim switch when pressing toward the center is failing most of the time, I think I may have a spare to replace it.

Hi Mike,
I Cleaned the bad trim button with QD Electronic Cleaner and is now working at 100%.
I found where to set the type of S1 to MultiPos Switch and installed the stock FrSky 6 position Switch and did calibration.
But I may have the wiring of the 6 position switch incorrect, I wired the RED wire to VCC and the BROWN wire to the GND.

Is this correct ? :?:

Hi,
At the white plug, I have changed the the wires between the Red wire and the Brown wire and re-done the Calibration.
This, I believe make the wiring correct, so when the pots and the 6 position switch are to there far left, are now at there lowest values.
