Gy-91

Post by nigelsheffield »

I see the gy-91 on aliexpress for under £5,
It has bmp280 and compas and gyro, mpu9250.
I remember the bmp280 being mentioned before and that is might well be as good as the ms5611..
Maybe worth thinking about putting in openxsensor at some point?
Anyone experience with it yet?

Supporting the 9250 could be quite complex.
It took me a lot of time (about 1 month) to implement 6050 in oXs using internal DMP. I did not support the magnetometer.
Hopefully I found a full doc and a complete example of implementation.
Those documents had to be completely revisited in order to fit into the small memory of AVR328p (including other oXs code).
I am not sure I could do the same for 9250.

I implemented 6050 hoping that it could reduce the reaction time of the vario.
It seems currently that it is effectively possible to reduce the reaction time but I am not sure if it can really be used because:
- it seems more noisy
- impact of rotation of the sensor has still to be evaluated.

I suggest to stay with gy-86 (at least currently)

Ok, thanks for all your hard work!
Looking forward to trying out the 6050 code if weather ever gets better....
And GPS too of course!

Looks like the bmp280 will be fair bit cheaper then the ms5611, just need it on a diy board for a decent price.
Not that the ms5611 is very expensive now........

Reading between the lines on some forums for flight controllers the bmp280 is still not as good as the ms5611.
Gy86 is still best option then. :D ,..
