OpenXSensor - Vario maximum height 820m

Post by Auer83 »

Hello,

my name is Karl and I´m using the openxsensor as a vario with MS5611.
It really works fine. Yesterday I found out that the vario starts above 820m again at 0 meters.

Unfortuntaley my knowledge in programming is not that best. Is it possible to change this?

Best regards,

Karl.

Could it be that you are in a region about 800 m above sea level?
Which protocol (SPORT, ...) are you using?
Which software are you running on the Tx (openTx?)

When the vario starts above 820m again, does it seems correctly if you discard the offset (e.g. giving 821 m if you move oXs 1 m up)?

Hello,

I´m 510m above sea level. I forgot to mention that I´m using the sensor with Jeti protocol on a Jeti DC16.

If I´m over 820m it starts correctly with 1m ...
It seems like some variable have reached their maximum?

OK, now I understand.
In Jeti protocol, I transmit the altitude in dcm and the value being transmitted contains only 13 bits. So the max value being sent is limitted to 8192 (2 with an exponent equal to13)
In a future version, I could change it in order to tranmit 21 bits and you should not have the issue anymore.
I had not expected that someone would be flying so hight!

Years ago I used to fly gliders on a mountain that was nearly 1000m high. I know that many glider model flyers go to fly on mountains. This is normal. Some go even higher than that.

It goes over relative altitude (relative to ground level where your started) and not about the altitude relative to sea level.
So, it is difficult to see a model when it sit 800m above your local position.
