Re: 3D PRINTING (different Filament for 3D Printers)

Post by bob195558 »

Bend looking at different Filament materials that would be good to be use for 3D Printing the 9x Radio Cases.
Here is one (eSUN eASA filament) that may be good:
(https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/esun-mod ... -%E6%98%93).
Note: Do not confuse eASA with the eABS filament.

I wonder if the taranis Batt cover fits the 9x well.
What happened was that a friend from the club gave me a completely wrecked 9x radio a while ago to use for parts.
Well, knowing myself, and having still an Ar9x board laying around, I have built yet another wonderful Ersky9x radio with all the goodies that the firmware allows. Still have the original 9x gimbals though, but they are behaving very well for now. the problem is that the radio didn't have a few switches and the battery cover.. Switches are not the problem but the cover is not easy to find.

Re: 3D PRINTING, Leveling the Heated Print Bed

Post by bob195558 »

Leveling the Heated Print Bed (CR10 3D Printer)
Checking the flatness of the aluminum Heated Base Plate, found that the left side center area
and all the way to its left side edge is high by about .008"
and the lowest corner is the front left side down about .012" low.
A percentage of this un-flatness is being transferred to the glass or the 12 x 12 mirror surface.
Normally I would just shim the glass up to make it as flat as I could make it.
But we want to have as much contact surface between the hearted aluminum plate and the glass printing base
for heat transfer efficiency.
I am not sure what the proper (best) distance (gap) between the Extruder Print Nozzle to the Heated Glass Printing Bed should be.
It is said, with the Heated Printing Bed leveling process to use a strip of regular paper which can be about .003" to .005" thick.
If I need to, can look into upgrading to an Auto 3D Bed Leveling device, which I believe can map the surface
of the bed and then is able to auto adjust the Z up and down to the surface of the printing bed.

It fits, but doesn't clip in place well, so falls off easily. I have a "spare" battery cover from an old JR radio (I was given), that fits as well, and does clip in, but not as well as a "real" 9x one.

Thanks Gentlemen. :)

Perhaps I just go for the Taranis cover. If it doesn't lock in place I might heat the locking tabs a bit with the hot air gun, and see if they can be moved a little. Maybe that is the problem?

I just checked the cover from my production Taranis (plus). This has a piece of rubber foam stuck to the inside to stop the battery from moving. When used on a 9X, the foam then supplies sufficient pressure so the cover does click into place. I then check the cover from a prototype Taranis again. By adding a suitable piece of rubber foam, then this also clicked into place OK.

I also add some of the thin packing foam to the inside of the 9x battery box which keeps the battery securer and applies pressure to the cover helping to securer it in place.

3D PRINTING TURNIGY for RC Hobby (CR10 3D Printer)

Post by bob195558 »

A little update, been working with the CR10 3D printer, printing some parts from thingiverse:
(https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=9x ... a356bd24b4) to learn how to best 3D print parts.
I am using Curs 3.1.0 for the slicer program.
Because the heated aluminum bed is not flat, I have been looking at different options to help this predicament.

One is to make a bracket and drill and tap a hole in the aluminum bed which then will be able to pull the highest point down.
But this will only help with part of the bed that is very high.

Another one that I like a lot, is this Auto Bed Leveling from TH3D (EZABL Kit), which map's the printing bed surface
and auto adjust the Z axis up and down to always keep the correct distance between them:
(https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/ezab ... cr-10-abl/).
With this is also, is required to flashing TH3D's new firmware to the CR10 control board too:

The other part of this project, is making a CAD file for the two 9x radio case halves which have been
set aside when the Creality CR-10 3D Printer was delivered back on January 2nd.
So making this 3D CAD file with Fusion 360, I have disassembled my er9x radio so to be able to take measurements.
Also I may be able to insert photos of the 9x radio case halves into Fusion 360 to use as guides.
I will view some more youtube's to see if this may be able to do.

3D PRINTING (Fusion 360 Autodesk 9x Radio Case)

Post by bob195558 »

Update: Been learning how to use Fusion 360 Autodesk
and only have so far a very rough sketch of the 9x front case half.
I have been allowing myself to start from the beginning many times sketching a new version so to
help gain in learning to use Fusion 360.

9x Front Case half Fusion360_a
9x Front Case half Fusion360_a

The 9x Case halves have a lot of complexity inside and out to them, so I may make some changes
where it will help move this project along a little easier.
Can always go back to add stuff in to a newer version if needed.
To be able to 3D Print a Custom 9x Radio Case will be a great new mod feature to use.

Also any help with creating Fusion 360 CAD 9x Case halves is most welcome
for I am learning to use Fusion 360 at the same time.

Another upgrade/mod for the CR10 3D Printer (EZABL Auto Bed Leveling): (http://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopic ... 85&t=10815).
This (https://www.th3dstudio.com/product/ezab ... cr-10-abl/) will fix the Print Bed nonflatness.

Re: 3D PRINTING (RC Hobby for 3D Printers)

Post by bob195558 »

Problem when you have your Nozzle set to close to your Print-Bed Surface:

If your Z-Offset (Nozzle Gap Setting) set to close to the Print-Bed Surface,
the EZABL is not able to work properly.
The Z-Offset Setting is the lowest point that your Z-axis can travel downward.
So you want to set your Z-Offset Setting to the lowest point of your Print-Bed surface.
If you have your Z-Offset Setting set to low (close) to the Print-Bed, you will see it printing to
close to where the high points (places) are on your Print-Bed Surface
and the lowest points on your Print-Bed Surface will look more to have a proper printing gap.
The Z-Offset Setting only uses the EZABL data to adjust the Z-axis up and down,
but it can not make the Z-axis to travel below what your Z-Offset Setting is at.
So to fix this problem you need to raise your Z-Offset Setting up.

Some more info about setting your EZABL and Z-Offset Setting:
The EZABL is set so that it runs higher up from the Z-Offset Setting
and what you set your Z-Offset to is for your Nozzle to Print-Bed Gap.
Set the EZABL Sensor to 2mm off from the Print-Bed surface
and then set it's sensitivity there (LED triggers at 2mm from print-surface).
The EZABL collects the flatness-data of the Print-Bed surface only.
When you set your Z-Offset Setting
(Nozzle to Print-Bed Gap with a piece of paper and you can set this manually),
set it to the lowest point of your Print-Bed Surface.
Do not set it to the highest point of your Print-Bed Surface,
because your Z-Offset Setting is the lowest the Z-axis can move downward.
If you set your Z-Offset Setting to low (close) to the Print-Bed the EZABL
will look like it is not working properly.
I recommend in the TH3D firmware to use the Baby-Step feature
(uncomment the #define BABYSTEP_OFFSET)
to fine-tune your Z-Offset Setting on-the-fly when printing the first layer.
When you have your Z-Offset Setting set correctly,
you then need to save these new setting by selecting "Store setting".
If you do not save your new Settings, the next printing job will return to the wrong (old) Z-Offset setting
and you will have a problem printing.
